These pulleys are currently not available from UR for the 300ZX, and we would need 40 items or more to get UR to produce a run for us.

    Questions and Answers:

What is different about the Ultra Sc series to the currently available UR pulleys?

The ultra Sc series is a stock diameter crank pulley. The pulley currently available is an underdrive pulley, meaning it turns the accessories such as the alternator, power steering and water pump at lower speeds to gain more power.

Why would I want a stock diameter sized crank pulley when I get can get more power from an underdrive pulley?

According to most people, 90% of the gains from an underdrive pulley come from the lower weight of the pulley compared to the stock dampener. That means only 10% of the power an underdrive pulley comes from running the accessories slower. Stage charts estimate the power increase due to an underdrive pulley to be around 20whp, so only 2whp is from underdriving the accessories. There are disadvantages to underdriving the accessories. The main disadvantage is slower water pump speeds and thus higher coolant temperatures. Recently people have been fitting new water pump pulleys to their underdrive pulley equipped cars in order to return coolant temperatures to normal. With the Ultra Sc series UR pulleys, this will not be required. So you can save yourself up to $150 by using a stock diameter crank pulley.

    When will these be available?

To be honest. No idea. I will get the ball rolling if EOI approaches the required number of people.

How much will these things weigh anyway?

Not 100% sure, but slightly more than the current underdrive pulleys.

    Stock dampener: ~5.2kg
    UR Ultra S (Underdrive): ~0.8kg
UR Ultra Sc (Stock Diameter): I'm guessing ~1kg.

    Will this destroy my motor?

Some people believe a harmonic damper is required on the 300zx, some people don't. I know of no instances in which an underdrive pulley has been attributed to an engine failure or damage. I cannot provide information beyond this.

How much will this cost me?

Ultimately, I think if you are interested you should be prepared for a price around $300 to your door, but I will not be running this for profit to me, so if it ends up being $250, that's what the price will be. Remember that an overdrive water pump pulley will not be required, so you are saving $150 there.

There is only one exception to this cost pricing. If I can only get an EOI for 35 people definitely in, I may purchase the 5 other pulleys, at which point they will be sold for more than cost price as the first product to come out of ZDUCTIV Industries or some other cool sounding name which I will think of later....

So why, apart from power gains, and not having to get an overdrive water pump pulley to return my coolant temps to normal should I get this pulley?

They are sexy. Women will lust after you. Maybe.

Will this work on my NA? How much horsepower will I get?

    Yep.

Gains on an NA aren't as high as the 20whp claimed for the TT underdrive pulley, but its still a respectable 10whp.

What proof do you have of these gains?

    Power Steering Pulley Choice

The power steering pulley is different for 89-93TT vs 93+TT, and NA pumps. This is because the earlier TT series had hydraulic HICAS, whereas the 93+TT is electric, and the NA didn't have HICAS.

The pulleys have different rib counts (4 rib for early TT, 3 rib for later TT/NA) and a different offset.

The early TT crank pulley can be used on the later series TT, and NA, but there will be an extra rib spacing on the pulley. This should be of no consequence, just ensure the belt is lined up straight and there shouldn't be any issues.

Just to add some extra information regarding the differences between NA, 89-93TT, and 93+TT power steering pumps.

All Unorthodox Racing PS pump pulleys are 4 ribs. So if you are worried about using a 3 rib belt on the crank pulley with your 3 rib NA / 93+TT PS pulley, you can order the UR PS pump pulley and use an appropriate 4 rib belt.

The UR NA/93+TT pulley looks like this:
    http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/Merchant2/0110416.jpg

Just to sweeten the deal for anyone who is sitting by trying to decide whether to get involved.

You also 2 get Unorthodox Racing stickers!!!

    And instructions on installation!!!

What will be the finish of these pullies?

Once we pay, how long will it be before we get these?

+ shipping time to me, +shipping out to you.

I would also been test fitting the pulley before they are sent out in case they were manufactured incorrectly (its UR, this is very unlikely).

So I'm saying ~8 weeks to be on the safe side and so I don't get a barrage of "where the $#(#$ are they" PM's if UR / shipping takes longer than expected.

    Will this destroy my motor?

Some people believe a harmonic damper is required on the 300zx, some people don't. I know of no instances in which an underdrive pulley has been attributed to an engine failure or damage.

I've looked for people who have had engine damage as a result of using an underdrive pulley, and I just can't find any instances of it occuring.

The UR pulleys are balanced before they are sent out, and timing marks are accurate to 1 minute of a degree. (60 minutes to a degree)

    Accessory Prices
For those interested in the accessory pulleys, I just got an email from Shawn saying that we would get 20% off the prices listed on their website. Now their website prices are higher than COZ, but after discounts this means the pulleys from UR would be:

    Alternator: ~$64.07USD+shipping
    Power Steering: ~$96.09USD+ shipping
    Water pump: ~$91.52USD+ shipping

And of course because I would be getting them shipped bulk with the crank pulleys, a saving there as well.

The increased shipping rate would be shared by those who order the accessory pulleys, and will not effect the people who only wish to get the crank pulley.

    Timing marks?

Don't worry, I've got what everyone wants stored as Pm's.

Think I'm gonna have to send it out again as I believe from the part no. and UR website that there are 4 different alternator pullies.

    Sigh.

I'll put my hand up again...

Im but as we need forty people im not holding my breathe, so on that basis as I suggested before those who can live with an underdrive kit may have to band together and get a smaller GB going from COZ...

I wonder how many ppl of the 29 are commited buyers?

If you have 29 deposits then you have about 29 commited buyers, which makes the magical 35-40 mark feasible.... but the longer this GB goes on the more people are going to go soft and drop out especially with Xmas around the corner..... Is it not time for people to put their money where their mouths are (take deposits) and draw line in the sand on this (ie closing date if all looks lost?)

I will not be accepting deposits without a foreseeable end to this gb (Jamez007 gb anyone?)

If this slides by the wayside then so be it.

well i doubt they can get a good product like this even later.....so if they drop out its their loss, im sure most people are commited for this...i know i am....even though i probably wont have a zed next week but hell im going to get one later....

Yer I think you'd get a 90% hit rate of people actually committing vs dropping out if it was to go ahead now. Mind you as stated previously... I think back to last year around xmas time, gb's went on forever and ever and ever because there was never a time when everyone wanting to get involved had the money all at once.

If this doesn't get more interest in the next month you could even start thinking about pulling the pin and trying to drum up some interest again in feb-march once most have recovered from the xmas/new years bank account assaults.

    My 2.5 cents ;)
