Just putting a feeler out there to see who would be interested in a bolt on kit to provide an under tray at the rear of the car between the sub frame and the rear bumper. Those with after market rear bars will most likely be out of luck as this will only be designed to fit stock cars with 100% certainty, there will need to be a turbo and a NA version also due to the different sub frame. The idea is to make the tray the same width as the centre lower section of the bumper and with enough clearance at the front for most after market exh systems - so long as the follow the stock path fairly closely. What will this part do? stuff all TBH, it will tidy up the airflow at the back of the car a bit, it might save you a few cents in fuel over a long distance, it will tidy up the underside of the car and modernise it a touch. I will include some ribs in the basic design to stiffen it up and reduce the material thickness required, this will also add some "style" to the item. As far as I know no one has produced an item like this for the Z32 so far, there are products being sold as rear diffusers, there are lower bumper covers with diffusers built in etc but not a simple bolt on kit to fill in the big hole at the back. I also intend to develop some under trays to fill in the gap between the front of the rear sub frame and the floor pan, again this will have only a minimal effect on anything in the real world but it is something I have always looked at and thought they could have done better had $ not been an issue. Modern cars are VERY flat underneath and this has a number of advantages, these items are for those who wish to "modernise" their Z32
I would be interested...but i got the stillen skirt on my stock rear bar, so would it still fit with my setup? Also the cheaper the product, the more buyers you would get including me...as your yourself said it doesnt do much other than clean things up a bit. Abraham
. the rear bar on a 2 seater is like a parachute catching wind. just have to stick your head under and have a look . can only be a good thing to make a tray twinz bar is even worse.. have to mod mine
I ahve the worse bar of all! try a wings west ! its a major air catch lmao. i reakon i use an extra 3L fuel each trip overcoming wing drag lol
I always do my best to keep prices down as low as is practical, I can see these would come in at a very similar price to the guards for the front seeing as a similar amount of material and work. The bracket for the front end will be the only thing to drive up the price a touch. I'm going to try and keep it so even with SOME after market bars they will still fit but it will be over to the customer to look at the photos and make up their own mind if it will work or not.
So a few mths later but I have some progress for people to have a look at, a simple "yay" or "ghey" is all that is required unless you have some constructive questions or comments. Those that are not in to adding this sort of thing and would never buy or fit it regardless of the design ...... you know where I'm going with this so please try and keep the thread "clean". Prototype is painted, production would be anodised. Prototype is fitted with "I couldn't be assed walking 100m down the road to the fastener suppliers and get some stainless button head screws" zinc plated bolts, production would have button head stainless screws. Production versions would be based on stock NA or TT subframe NOT my custom TT diff and subframe, the only difference between TT and NA versions would be a couple of unseen brackets at the front. No wind tunnel testing or theoretical aerodynamic modelling etc has been undertaken, this is designed to simply look better than the gaping hole the stock set up has Would look the have pricing under $250 NZ anyone interested?
Hey Glenn Good job .. Only prob I can see is that people with different exhaust bends will have a problem You have 90 degree bends where ones like SZ are straighter.
while i understand that it hasnt been wind tunnel tested etc etc, would it be fair to assume this would make some sort of aerodynamic difference or is this too hard to geuss.
hence my comment. this could serve to helping "fix" the parachuting issue, or it could serve to be a even bigger wind catcher.....
Actually I just realized it doesn't go to the diff cross member (which would be better) probably because of the harsh exhaust bends ....with my SZ exhaust I have a much wider gap to continue to it due to a straighter exhaust.
