    Hi guys
    First time poster

Bought myself a 300zx tt about a week ago and upon removing the leaking intercoolers to fit some alloy ones and some new hoses i found that there was some oil in both of the pipes ( not a huge amount but enough to notice / no smoke from the exhaust either ) and specks of metal dust in one of the pipes coming from the turbo

Given this i was intending on replacing both of the turbos with https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=3515 but cant seem to find any bolt on kits within Australia.

Has anyone got any recommendations as to whether this is an issue whether those turbos are good or there are bolt on kits that i was unable to find ?

    Cheers

    Hi Moses,

Bit of oil in intercooler pipes is "normal" for turbos that seeking new bearings or "rebuild".

However if you seeing "specks of metal dust in one of the pipes" I would suggests you to garage that car ((!!!immediately!!!)), and change/rebuild those turbos right away.

"specks of metal dust in one of the pipes" would suggest that clearance on those bearings are too big that impeller is hitting the housing and shaving it self out.

If you continue to drive that car... Impeller might start shooting out larger particles which will eventually wind it's way in to combustion chamber, and while there do some unrepeatable damage to your cylinder walls.

Disco Potato are good choice but I wouldn't be paying Garret and CZP that kind of money, as these days you can find same thing (with minimum of 2 or less time the $$$ value). With that said, it won't be bolt on set and it would require few mods but hay engine is gonna go out and that is your biggest issue...

What you probably don't know, is that GTX2863 or GTX2867 are way superior Turbo chargers and if I would still have a chance I would go with them any day of the week.

(this will include new dump pipes, new/modified intake pipes, working around oil lines, most likely modification of existing wastegate mountings, possibly new manifolds, 1000 of small things that I can't think of, etc, etc)

In ether case (larger turbos upgrades) you will need bigger injectors and some sort of fuel management (Nistune board or full aftermarket ECU) and then some things that you will have to think of, like Forged pistons, upgraded Con-rods and main bearings... That all depends on where you going to STOP... "My Advice is don't go nowhere near 400kw with stock internals or as you going to melt/bend vital parts of your engine"

However I have set of "as new stock turbos" that I'm willing to let go for a bargain price in case that this all seems to much for you :)

    Cheers

The oil in the intake pipes is also a common result from an aging engine developing a more blow by as the crank case breathers feed pressurised air from the sump back into the intake and without a catch can that air generally carries oil.

As for the metal best guess is one of the bearings has failed and the wheels are touching the housing as SrafciGeR said. The GT2860rs kit is for big power so if you aren't aiming that high you might be better served by getting your stock turbos highflowed by hypergear or someone else based in Australia. The stock engine/injectors etc. will run fine with the 2860rs if you leave the boost at 10psi but that's a bit of a waste of money.

I agree with Fists, unless you're chasing big HP (and big dollars along with it), just remove your turbos, take them down to GCG and have them rebuilt and hiflowed. This will give you some nice gains over stock and straight bolt back on.

P.S. After reading that listing again I'm concerned with the misinformation in it, 2860r is not the Disco, the 2860rs is and having two separate wastegates set to 12psi each does not give you 24psi, it gives you 12psi.

There are a bunch of people at CZP that know their Zs but whoever wrote that listing isn't one of them.

    Thanks for the responses guys

After taking the rest of the piping from the intercoolers to the throttle body i found there was less oil and no metal shavings. So im fairly certain the oil is coming from the the turbos
    Shes garaged until there fixed.

The stock power is enough for me for sure so i will look the get the turbos rebuilt.

Cheers again for the help =)
