I've recently finished rebuilding my Z and now I want to look at getting it tuned. I'm wondering what my options are without going to a full aftermarket ECU? Would an Apexi SAFC allow me to run higher boost?

I don't really know to much about this stuff so any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Talk to Gavin Wood Autotech Labrador about Nistune. Excellent product adapts to existing ECU and with Gavin's tuning expertise and dyno you'd be in excellent hands.

I think I might have a word to him then, he seems to have a good reputation.

    Thanks.

Yep, go the Nistune, not much more than a SAFC and about a bazillion times better :zlove:

Sounds like nistune is the way to go then,

Oh and I almost forgot, at the moment its got a stock TT clutch in it, is the stock TT clutch ok for 250RWKW~ or will I have to get a HD clutch before i get it tuned?

haha I'm going easy on it at the moment as I just finished rebuilding it :p so you think it will hold up for the dyno tuning, just no good for hard launches?

relax... dont jump to the first answer you get.
Nistune is great, but there are other options. Have a look at Microtech, its the cheaper of the full stand alones but out performs some of the more expensive ones.

Don't they start at $1000+ though? The reason I was thinking nistune/another piggy back system is that they are cheap but will do all i require them to do...

You'll probably find that Nistune costs about the same with dyno time and tuning. Ask Gavin, he's seen them all and will give you an unbiased opinion on what's best for your application.

Cheapest way is to get your current ECU socketed (circa $50) and buy an Ostrich from here...http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=169

Don't pay for what you don't need....

If you've just done a stock rebuild and all you want to do is run some more boost, just get your ecu socketted and a decent chip and you're in business.

Plenty of forum members can provide you with a good chip, DON'T buy one off Ebay

If you want a custom tune, then it's still the same deal except you throw your zed on the dyno and get a chip burnt for your car. It's a fraction of the cost of anything else available.

You only need to go aftermarket if you are constantly changing things, because then the convenience of changing maps "on the fly" outweighs the additional cost.

Thanks mate, I think this is more in the ballpark of what I am after, as basicly I've done all the mods I want to do for a while now (turbo back exhuast, pod, Japtek SMIC, hypergear turbos) so I really shouldnt have to get it re-tuned to often. The only other mod I may do in the future is some nismo injectors, but of course I would have to get a re-tune then anyway.

Would john woods be able to do a standard ECU tune? how good can a tune be if i got someone on here to do me up a chip without having the car on a dyno?

GAVIN Wood would be able to do it - but its a long way to go...

Its safer to do it on a dyno, but guys on here can write you a safe tune for the mods you have but it won't be as 'perfect' so to speak as getting it done on a dyno cause every setup is different... Same setup may run differently on different motors.

I won't dob in any of the members who can do it - I'll leave it to them to post up if they can or want to help :)

He said he wanted options without going to a full aftermarket ECU.

Just a question, is Nistune (or the other options) worth it on an NA? Is the difference very noticeable, or negligible? I have pod, exhaust (not headers though) UDP, regularly serviced (including 100k). I want to do everything that is reasonable to do on an NA for power, but don't want to go over the top wasting heaps of money on small gains... would rather save up for a future TT swap.

Would be similar value for money as Headers.
