Ok i am puzzled on this one. backstory; my friend took it for a drive, pulled up hard on the brakes outside his place, (not letting him drive again)... reversed in it next to the kerb, he then went to turn it off and the turbo timer did not engage. so i thought i should start the car again for a few seconds to let it idle through. i started the car then it stalled. then it would not start. there was a weird almost vac sound from the bac of the engine occasionally.. (pssccht,.... pssscchht)... it did that for a minute then stopped. the car fires fine, its just not igniting, i checked fuel and its there (squirted all over me).. i cleaned all my coil pack connectors, sparkies appeared fine. it just keeps turning over and wont actually fire up? Does anyone have any idea what this might be ? cause i am stumped on this one.
... thats what i thought however i was expecting to get some warning signs of that at least .. for instance.. car being hard to start a few days prior. I have to work at 1 so i cant really do to much at the moment ..
is it series 1 PTU? if so, i'd be looking at that first. there's not much to do once it dies, replace it.
check for a spark. Pull a plug out, put the coilpack on, and plug it in, ground it. turn the key and get somone else to check for spark.
Series 1 on the left, series 2 on the right. The pic is from an article in our Tech section, titled Series 1 PTU repair. As for external variations on either type, none that I'm aware of. Hope this helps.[/QUOTE] i have a S2 PTU. *(right hand side one).. so that should not be playing up.. is there a fuse in the driver side kick panel to do with ignition ?
Not that I know of. Most of the 'important' fuses are in the engine bay fuse boxes. Either near the brake booster (fusable links), or fuse box near pass side headlight. Any error codes?
i have not hooked consult up to check yet but im planning to do that tomorrow.. so far i have consult to read error codes. check for a spark with coil packs. then replace PTU with one from another Z to check .. if it still wont start after that then i have no idea ..
Stef; i htought perhaps but that should not necisarily prevent the car from starting again, anyway i turned the turbo timer off... car still wont start, turbo timer function otherwise is normal again now.. as for the boost leak, it owuld have to be a MASSIVE boost leak to prevent the engine from even starting or trying to turn over. I have NO ignition what-so-ever... just keeps trying to start. are there any MAJOR vac/boost lines at the back of the engine as i did hear a weird compression sound "pssccht...psccth" from that area just after it cut out ..
Ok i have no spark... so that leads me to believe 2 things.. 1... the ECU is shot or somehow not sending signals to the PTU/Engine.. so i am hooking up consult to try and shed some light on that issue and checking all my connections... OR... 2.... my PTU somehow shat itself... odd for a SII but still possible to happen...
How did you check for spark? Are you sure the plugs aren't fouled from excessive cranking with big vac leak and now do not spark? You say "as for the boost leak, it owuld have to be a MASSIVE boost leak to prevent the engine from even starting or trying to turn over. I have NO ignition what-so-ever... just keeps trying to start." Does it turn over? Does it turn over and not fire? Does your check engine light illuminate when the ignition is in the "on" position? AFM related issues can cause very hard to not starting problems, don't overlook it, everyone says ptu, that poor thing gets blamed for everything. S2 ptu failure is extremely rare.
