    Gday all

Just curious as to whether a 300ZX TT which has just been serviced and all maintenance up to date can travel around Australia?

    Thanks

You didn't specify that it wasn't going to be on the back of a tow truck ;)

I certainly wouldn't trust a ~20yo car with a several thousand kilometre journey, not without a mobile Coz/Caz warehouse towed behind me....

i jsut took mine from Brisbane to Middlemount (shitty little mining town in central QLD), used it as a daily to get to work and back (70kms a day) and back and didn't miss a beat :D:zlove: total of 4000kms in 2.5 months. i was driving through areas with no phone reception on a daily basis aswell . assuming its had all its preventative maintenance (s2 ptu, full 100k, good battery, good fuel pump, fresh oil and coolant, probably plenum pull aswell (mine hasnt had plenum pull but has everything else), etc.) these things can be totally reliable (mine hasn't let me down once in 2+ years of ownership :zlove:)

edit: i lie, it didnt drive it for about 1 month last year trying to figure out why it was only firing on 5 cylinders, turned out to be the PTU, everyone should have a s2

As long is maintenece is up to date... the zeds no different to any other car, tho they dont like the heat so make sure your cooling system is perfect...

i think if you can't trust the zed to do the trip, then your car probably isn't running too sweet eh.

effectively, if you want a good running car you want it to be able to take a decent trip.

Hmmmm, when I drive to perth taking a Z would be kool but I just don't trust any of them. Need something more common for a trip like that.

Lucky theres so many holdens with wings on the back so even tho its easy to get parts I'll make plenty of down force and get there sooner. lol

Doesn't matter what type of car I'm driving, if I'm going across the Nullarbor or similar I pack spare rad hoses, fan belt and a full size spare tyre. No spacesavers! For the Z I would also pack a spare PTU unless I was running a series 2, and I would also pack an EA Falcon heater hose that can serve as a heater core bypass should the unthinkable happen (it did to me, but I made it to Perth and bought the hose there).

If you think the car is reasonably maintained, the cooling system is up to scratch, and there are no known underlying problems that could give you grief, then go for it.

I put almost 180,000 km on my first Z over 7 years, which wasn't the most pristine of cars in the first place, and drove it to every capital city in Oz except Darwin and Hobart. I trusted that car - still learning to do that with the new one.

Do you 'trust' your Z? Therein could be your answer.

Nice, sounds great but I'm not sure I want to learn how to do a heater core bypass somewhere like the location in your photo. :p
