Im installing my new Koyo Maxima Rad now on my NA.. I started out with cooling issues when I found my original 20 year rad hose had slipped off even with clamp on firm.. I tightened it more and it was still slipping when presssure built up and thats when I cracked my top rad neck hence the new rad install.

So I guess the hose went too soft with age..

I am about to put an order through to CZP which will include a $35 exact replacment silicone top hose one so just wanted something cheap to get me by 2 weeks or so.

The only close replacement I could get was the Gates 05-0273, Ford Falcon, Fairlane, Cortina 6cyl hose. So I have to cut this one to size that has similar shape but at the radiator neck it seems like it doesn't really touch the sides when fitting.. ie 2mm gap not touching the inner diameter of hose just guessing.

So wondering whats the best thing to do -

1/ Fit back on original 20 year original hose and use some silicone hope it stays on and not slip. Was leaking slowly on my old rad, not sure if old rad was already cracked at neck or just rubber gone soft not maintaining seal. It pretty much almost completely came off the car when clamp was on firm.

2/ Use the Gates 05-0273 hose and mod. Use silicone and have clamp on firm, to make up for the non-exact fit at rad end. This was $16 hose

3/ Get refund on previous hose and just go for the exact compatible hose $46 rubber hose even though its a bit of a waste of money when I have a better hose on order coming soon.

Any ppl have much success with the Gate 05-0273 hose

    Many thanks in advance!! :D

I'd say use the old one till the new one arrives.

    Hi Nigel!!

Yeah just a little bit nervous since it kept on slipping off even when I did the clamp as tight as I could do.. (Mistake on 20 year old plastic  )

I guess I'll let her warm up abit see how it stands with the new rad.

Ended up taking back the Gates 05-0273 My old hose seems to be solid with new hose clamps on.

Also anyone else looking at using the Gates 05-0273 its inner Diameter is 39mm, Think the original diameters are 35mm rad end and 40mm engine block end.

Seems like a too loose fit but Im sure if you used a decent amount of silicon that should fix it.
Probably would only recommend for new plastic tanks or alloy ones as you have to tighten the clamp abit and older plastic tanks would just be too brittle.
