Too Much Fuel?

Ok as most of you know i have had my zed re-tuned to 14psi by PZP (Tom) which is super sweet.... however.. im having an issue im not sure how to fix or what the actual problem is..

After a drive on 14psi and/or 9psi not only does my car have a very loud backfire sound when slowing into 2nd or 1st but the car will randomly stall, when slowing (50 or below) from what i have noticed with the stalling, is that when the clutch is in, (and/or foot off accelerator) the rev's will sometime just completely drop and stall....

Just a side note. i have bov's on order (some1 said that could be an issue, but think they not even close.. just in case i still have stockies)

And i currently have no filter. my new frontmount is in front of it, and the pod was taken off, and a new smaller 1 is on order...

Ok last thing, if it helps solve the problem, to me personally, (which i have no idea) the zed sounds like its getting way too much fuel, simply because the backfire sounds really 'thick' that make sence? lol sorry im a lill vauge, im clueless about zeds... oh and i use 98% octane as my fuel.

Help will be loved its makeing me unsure about driving at low speeds :bash:

    backfire...

is the backfire on slow down loud or just a popping sound?? On cars with modified exhausts and aftermarket tuning, a popping noise on deceleration is quite common and is due to a lean condition in that part of the map.... It is not harmful, and can be tuned out if so desired... My car does it, and I've never done anything about it...

If its a loud backfire, then perhaps the problem is more serious and could indicate an excessive amount of fuel entering the exhaust, igniting and causing the loud backfire...

The stalling could be a related issue to the tune, but 90% of the cases of the car stalling when slowing down is related to an incorrect setting on the IACV... ie, the idle is not adjusted correctly..... and since the car was tuned, perhaps the idle had to be adjusted and as such has been set a little too low and is now causing the car to stall when slowing down...

    Cheers

Perhaps the increase in psi caused too much pressure to build up in the intercooler piping during the dyno runs that the joiners to the front mount became loose ie boost leak. Check to make sure the clamps are on tight all round. It's a very common problem with fmic installs.

NO FILTER?? I would fix that ASAP.

ok you need a filter ASAP. that will cause deceleration issues and stalling escpecially if it unsheilded.

do you still have a front shroud? the stalling is caused by turbulence affecting the AFM. many ppl have this same issue when going 2 Doolz if you dont shield the filters correctly

also are you running a series 1 ptu.. if so ditch it asap

anyways if you have any questions i would be shooting a pm 2 tom he IS THE MAN and will definately sort you out :D :D :D

    Hi Andy,

Your AFM is sheilded and is meshed too so don't stress... Yes it's better to run a filter and yours should be here by the end of the week so thats fine.

Obviously it's not recommended to run without one but i've had several customers running no filter... one for over 2 years and his compression is still perfect and the intake system is clean as a whistle.

As for the stalling issue, you may have a few vac lines pop off under your increased boost, this will cause the car to run richer so have a check around the engine bay and if you can't find any problems... give me a bell and we can sort out a time for me to do a leak test for you.

Mate, your stalling issue is because you have no filter. This is common.

It will fix itself when you get the filter on. Make sure you keep the filter out of direct air flow when fitting it.

Dont frett about no filter. I couldnt fit mine on till recently. Car still runs fine after 1000 klms !!

Hey all thanks for the good responces i know the backfire isint a issue but i thought that it may be part of the problem as i have never heard it b4 the tune... to be totally honast i like it :zlove: .

Tom in reply to what you said all my hoses are fine, and im still getting thrown back into my seat when i put my foot down, i think that judging by what every1 has said the filter may very well be the problem... if not, the only thing i can think of is maby the rev's are getting a lill low and with no filter, could be causeing them to drop a lill too much causing stall?? well either way im sure it will be fixed soon enough, once i get the pod + bov's from you, if i still have the issue ill cross that bridge when i come to it

once again thx all for responces. any other ideas please feel free to add them to what the problem might be

That is kick ass mate im glad some one finally turned up the boost on my old car how much has it got now?

The problem you are having is because of the pod filter issue when I first took out the air box and put the pod on it wasn?t right and allowed air in the side at the joint and as a result when you came in hard and changed down the cars revs would fall as the cutch was in and then it would go up a little and then stall. I repositioned the pod a little higher and it was fine

Backfiring the car is running a dump back exhaust and has high flow cats and mufflers so when you gave it stick it would pop at gear changes and on cold nights it was shoot flames but that was because it was running rich and always has run rich

    I wish mine backfired :(

My 180sx used to as it ran real rich. Damn its an awsome sound

Ive liked it ever since Jeramy Clarkson pointed out that the Ferrari F40 does the same as it "throws unburnt fuel away just for fun"

Love the way he puts things lol.

Hahaha its so cool at one point it was running really rich and it was just burning fuel so it made this gargling sound as it set fire to anything that came close :p
