hello from Greece.I recently bought a set tomei poncams with tomei adjust pulleys. It was really cheap so i bought them all. Now my question. Does it worth to use the pulleys or should i stick with the oem pulleys? Now i have auto cams

    Welcome to AUS300.
Wow, your from Greece. That is so far away.
How much did you pay for the kit ?

My opinion is to use the Tomei gearset as well as tomei cams.

I would like to ask what is the reason you purchased the cam kit for ?
Most VG owners with experience choose a Tomei cam upgrade as one of the last areas to mod on the 300 engine.

The cams should be timed, to get that right the adjustable wheels will probably be needed. Poncams are a good upgrade with engines like the SR20, apparently not fashionable with the Z32 crowd though.

I'm fairly sure poncams are only 256 degree 8.5mm lift for our engines, which is barely a step up from the standard 248 degree 8.5mm.

tomei poncams are advertised 256 duration but are 216 @.050 lift

JWT milds are advertised at 260 duration and are only 210 @ .050 lift

    Stock is 204 @.050

I got the kit for a hell of a price and that's why i got it. $400 all. New cams, used pulleys. I was ready to buy a set of manual cams to upgrade my auto ones and i felt on this offer and i couldn't resist. My engine is a vg30det single turbo and i use a precision turbo 5857e. My goal is 400rwhp

As my mechanic knows and he has all the equipment, i'll try to put them with my stock pulleys and check if it is ok with the timing. I dont want to loose the vtc if i can still have it without problems i'll keep it. At the exhaust side i'll put the adjustable pulleys to align the cams perfect.

Good info BB. As has been discussed forever, with the TT engine it's all about matching components to get the performance required, more or bigger is not always better. Given the good reputation Poncams have as part of a medium upgrade package for other engines there is no reason to think that they would not be so suitable for the TT as well. Remember, it's very easy to overcam a turbo engine.

So does it worth to put them in? As i said my goal is near 400-450 rwhp. The cams will make it easier or harder to get there?

My guess is that they are pretty well ideal for that power level. I got over 400whp from a basically stock VG30DET with mismatched single turbo using Poncams.
