    I have not been able to start the Z for a while now due to a Code 11 error. Replaced PTU and CAS but still no joy.
    I checked to see if the timing belt was moving when I turned it over and it wasn't moving!! The fan still turns so is it a safe bet to say my timing belt is stripped? Or could it be internals? :confused:

    :confused: How do you know the timing belt is not moving?

    Remove the CAS and crank the engine, you should be able to see the cam rotating if all is good.

    Checked if timing belt was moving by;

    I took a few bolts out of the timing belt cover so I could move it back far enough to see the timing belt. I then got someone to crank the car so I could watch the belt to check for movement, timing belt not moving but engine cranking and fan spinning

    Take the cover completely off and have a look. It could be a snapped/stripped belt, taking the cover off will let you know for sure.

    If it is indeed not turning then that is bad news indeed. Is your car a slicktop by any chance? :rolleyes:

    Can I get the covers off easily?

    It's not a slicktop but thanks for asking :D

    I was sorta hoping that it was a Slciktop and that the engine might be worse for wear so you might flog it off cheap ;)

    The timing belt cover is held on by approx 8 screws, some cap head screws and some bolts. You will need a 1/4" ratchet with 8mm socket and a 5mm allen key to undo them all. They hide and are painfull to undo if you don't know where you are looking.

    if my memory is correct you have to pull the water pipe off to remove the left hand cover so maybe go for the right hand cover if you just want to check belt .

    Yep, left hand cover requires removal of water hardpipes and draining of coolant. The right hand side can be removed without removing anything other than the CAS.

    RHS cover off

    RHS cover off and definitely no movement from the timing belt, can hear a noise like teeth slipping on the belt when i crank it so it looks/sounds like the some teeth on the belt are broken. Time to change the timing belt...
    Thanks for the help again

    The solution isn't so much the new timing belt as much as you will most likely have an engine full of bent valves :eek: VG's have interferance heads :(
