Hey, I have had this problem for a while. Sometimes when i am driving my zx1990tt Auto i can hear a ticking sound that ticks about 7 times quickly sometimes as close as 20 seconds appart coming from what sounds to be inside the middle of my dashboard. I first thought it had something to do with the aircon as usually stopped when I switched to defog on the windscreen or turned it off. But now this does not stop the ticking and it can become very annoying especially on long trips.

I have talked to mechanics and auto-electricians and non of them have heard of it before and say it would be quite expensive to take my dash appart to look and might not find anything.

Has anyone heard of this before and can help me out
? I could not find any similar posts about this.

    Thanks, Daniel.

    I would guess the fan

My car did it. And it is usually a stray leaf or something to that effect that has got past the vent mesh. Every time the fan blade passes the offending object it makes a ticking sound. Well in my case it did. Although in a ford I had it was the fan itself that was ticking so I replaced it and was perfect. I would say that it is something that is moving all the time. And there is not much behind that dash that moves...Vents and fan. Thats about it...From memory

Sounds inside the cabin can often be difficult to trace. Your problem may be related to the small fan in the overhead console that also houses the Map Lights. It is part of the Climate Control, and can become intermittently noisy(and bloody annoying).:zlove:

It can be the little flaps or doors that direct the air out from the aircon/heater area behind the stereo console. The Actuators can play up take the stereo surround off, Turn Climate control on and you'll be able to hear the noise clearly if thats what it is

If the noise comes about 20 secs apart I don't think it can be a fan. It could be the speedo/odometer gears with a broken tooth or something. Is it speed related?

    That's what I reckon.

Normally the fan above your head is a rattle or a very quick tick.

Doubt it's the odo, that is on the right hand side of the dash cluster.
