....it's a pity this baby never made it to the market. A street version of the 1997 Le Mans Nissan R390GT1. 3.5L V8, Twin Turbo, 6 speed tranny. Wonder if the engine will ever be used in a street car? I wouldn't swap my Zed for a 350Z, but this one....mmmmmmmmm? This was the Track car that made pole position, but finished 15th on the day. Even finishing is a feat in itself there. A 24HR sprint. I thought the Honda NSX was hot, (which it is) until I saw this! Anyone have any more info on this super car?
Re: daaaaaaammmm...ill have one too thanks!!! lol this lil baby is on grand turismo 4, i think its either 550hp or 750hp somewhere around there.
A bit more info .... I have a copy of Nissan Aust's in-house magazine (Spring '98) which has a story on the '98 Le Mans - the R390's finished 3rd, 5th, 6th and 10th that year, 3 pics below. Some more info on the road going version (I have read that only 2 road going versions were built) is in this link: http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=1510
Re: A bit more info .... They're mad in GT4 they just fry 1st, 2nd and 3rd as soon as they come on boost hah. My fav lemans car.
Thanks Mike......... ...good stuff. Finishing 3rd etc., is a tremendous result for only the second outing at Lemans. That is a very gruelling race. Years ago it was just an endurance race, now it is a 24HR flat out Sprint. I assume that result was in their class? Do you know what their outright position was?
They are the outright positions ... They were only beaten by 2 Porsche GT1's. The Audi R8's that have been so dominant in recent years were still to make an appearance. Other brands included McLaren, Toyota, Mercedes (the type that got airborne with Mark Webber at the wheel etc etc.) Click here for a photo archive of the '98 race. The cars are shown in car number order, not finishing order. And yes, I love sports car racing much more than I could ever love V8 taxi racing. Just a pity its never garnered the big-time support of the Aussie motor racing public. BRING BACK THE BATHURST 24 HOUR!!!
Thanks Mike, great information. Outright positions even better performance. I wonder who the lucky two guys are who have those street versions?
