Hey i have a black 2+2 and the paint is starting to fade on the bonnet and the targa. I use it daily and is mostly out in the sun. I was thinking wheather to respray it or change the colour to white or a silver. I know its going to be a big job doing that but is it worth changeing the colour or should i maybe consider finding a new car (sounds a little extreme though). Just wondering what you guys think?
    Thanx

big job :D you would have to take out the whole engine....big job is an understatement....i would say keep it black....black looks the best on Zeds anyway.

If you don't like the colour, just change it marginally so you don't have to pull it all apart to paint engine bay, inside doors etc.

Otherwise, unless the car is exceptional, or needs to be pulled apart anyways, just get another one.

Why not just respray the areas that are fading and feeling etc? Dont have to do the engine bay, useless unless its a showcar...especially if you keep it black....by changing colour will only mean you'd need to spend more...

    yeah

i no what you guys are saying i dont think i would go to the extent of pulling the engine out. it has a couple dints and i would need to get them done to, i just dont want the paint getting to the stage were its getting really bad, and if it did i would just do the parts needed the same colour. Being a black car its never clean and extremly hot, (being a labourour) thats y i just thought i would ask you guys what ya think.

if I had a black car and wanted a colour change, I probably wouldn't bother with the engine bay. I reckon it's the only colour you can get away with it.

It may be worth taking it to a professional car detailer and ask him if its possible to do a cut and polish and bring it back to life ;) it may turn out to be a much cheaper option, they can do wonders on some paint jobs

I wouldnt be going with 'basic' colors ..... specially silver, it has a reputation of fading faster than most other colors. Red is also a bad for fading too.

Grab a 'color chart' from a few car dealers and select a color from that range, the newer cars have some great color options that really suit the ZX.

As for the respray side of things, no you dont have to pull the engine unless its going to be a show car, panel shops will mask off the enginebay and other areas that are not required to be painted ( IE: like between the hinges on the rear hatch )

If your worried about the enginebay being black and the rest of the car being a differant color then select a darker color such as a purple or blue for the body color, the black enginebay wont be as noticable then.

    paint

Arrr so much to think about lol. I dont think the cut and polish will do it, its getting to the point where it is getting that cloudy effect if you no what i mean. I wouldnt spray the engine but i would do the doors and targa. Good idea though with keeping a darker colour like blue, although im trying to stay away from the dark colours. Hey anyone wanna swap black zed for white lol jk. Thanx though for your repleys.
