Why is my thermo Fan on all the time, just started doing this today after 1 day of the car running rough? Also where my pod filter is there are 1 pipe either side of it which were blanked off but now the rubber blanks have corroded and fallen apart leaving the openings exposed, what are they?

1> possible bad conection or faulty ECU temp sensor or wiring conection.Clean and re-tension .

2>if they are where the stock airbox was attatched , dont worry about them.
if your talking about other hoses (ie , if you have BOV's fitted instead of the stock recircs ) block of those hoses as they are letting un-metered air into the motor, hence your running rough probably!!
More info and pics will help determine what you are talking about.

    3> good luck

    Cheers

its probably your temp sensor the plugs usually stuff up, just replace or clean it. check with consalt to see what your water temp is. if its fine in consault it might be something else

above the motor fan ,there are 2 sensors on the water hard pipe.
1 is the dash gauge sensor (has 1 conector)
The other is the ECU temp sensor (has more than 1 wire conector)

Anyhow , the ECU one is on the left

    Cheers

The rubber blanks sounds like your recirculation valves return hoses have been removed and the pipes blanked if these blanks are cracked you will be sucking air into the system, which wont be picked up by the AFM unit and cause you motor to run rough.

The Thermo Fan has turned off for now, maybe it was that ecu temp sensor i just sprayed some crc contact cleaner and it seems to have done it's job for now.

It will run rough and turn on the thermo fan when the CTS (ECU coolant temp sensor) is stuffed or has a bad connection. Pull the connector while the car is running and you will get those symptoms again.

Good to see the guys fixed you up!

now, your ECU will be carrying an error code (code 13 Coolant Temp Sensor). It does this when it gets an irregular input from any of the various sensors it monitors. You have fixed the problem but the ECU error code will still be there and may be keeping you in safety map (some call it limp mode).

The ECU was quite advanced for its day and is programmed to protect the engine when it doesnt get the feebback it expects. Sort of like: "If I cant get a proper signal from the coolant temp sensor (which tells it the engine temps), I'll assume the worse case scenario is happening and the engine might be overheating - thus I'll take preventative steps to assist by turning on the auxiliary fan, advancing the timing and richening up the fuel mixture (and in a turbo I will also reduce the boost level)". The engine basically runs very rough obviously and you can simply clear this code via a number of ways from just disconnecting the battery overnight or using the paperclip trick or asking someone with datascan or conzult to do it for you.

There is no real harm driving around in safety map but you'll chew through the petrol and the performance will be quite a bit down.

Check the tech section for "ECU error codes" to try the paper clip trick to see if the code 13 is still there (which it will be) then take the desired action to clear the code. As you are new to the car, you understandably may not know yet how it is supposed to feel when normal:zlove:.
