    LED Light Conversion

Been meaning to do this for ages, finally got around to it. The job was to replace the parkers and the rear lights with white LEDs, as opposed to a generic yellow light bulb.

For reference, both bulb sets use T10 globes and can be purchased very cheaply from Ebay. Don't bother with autobarn/repco, as you'll pay 4 times as much, no joke. (Thanks Ditcham!)

    The globes in question (T10).

Couple of photos of the original setup, not the greatest pictures cause of the light.

The front was an easy swap, just simply pull out the original globe and insert the LED one. Be aware, these are polarity sensitive, which means that if you put the globe in the wrong orientation it won't work. Ie; - wire to + side of the globe wont work.

Again, not the best photo, but its an improvement.

Of course, the rears had to be much more of a **** around -_-

There was no bulb holder, so I just soldered some wires to the pins of the globe. Then I put male bullet lugs on the end, to make for easy installation.

Then I put a rubber grommet around the LED so it sat snugly in the housing and the female bullet lugs on the loom.

    The result.

Much nicer light and will modernize the outside, all for a total of $6! Will get some better pictures tonight when its actually dark.

Also cleaned up my cam cover a bit. Not too fused about it because you won't see it anyway, but none the less.

    From this.

You can see the weld up on the cam covers btw, or at least you can in my bay haha.

Have the cam covers warped from all the heat from that dirty big MIG weld on there?

  7. bRACKET

Nah no warping, they are thick as!

Yeah I know, but it looks fine, and I actually put it on my heads to see how visible the welds would be, and everything lined up, so I guess its alright... Right?

    Rebuild Part 1 & Co.

Here you are Sir, an update for you and for all :)

Motor out of Kermit is currently being rebuilt. New rings and bearings are on the list, as well as ARP head and main studs and a clean up of the water passages.

    Some epic main bearing damage!

Done a few other things while I've been waiting, nothing huge though. Slapped on the standard rear lights, looks much more like a zed now!

Scored myself an OEM disk changer that sits in the glove box. Removed it all and will be replacing the new useless unit with something useful like my turbo timer. Will look nice and neat when I'm finished, don't want too much crap visible inside the cabin.

Aaaannnnddd started smoothing my timing covers. Job is easier than I thought, just takes time and patience really. I just ground the bigger parts back with a grinder and flap wheel, then I went over everything with sand paper. For the holes I used this resin type compound, basically you apply the liquid then the solid sandy stuff over the top. This creates a mound that you can keep building on. Also used some bog type stuff, unsure what it is really haha.

Rear Strut Brace & Bose Boxes!

Took the last week for me to do this, but its finally done so here we go.

Swapped out the stock rear speaker brackets and put in some Bose boxes I got ages ago. Nothing special with this install, the only other thing I did was run new wires to the speakers, so now the whole system has been re-wired :)

While the trim was out, I fitted my UAS rear strut brace. I got a set of spare trim to measure up with so when I cut my rear trim it would be nice and neat. The idea was to keep the trim as neat as possible while cutting the absolute minimum.

    The test fit.

Then I used a hole saw and went to work.

Used a dremel to cut a slot in the trim so I could bend the trim around the brace. This means that there will still be trim under the brace, eliminating the massive slot/hole that is there with most instals.

    The finished result!

Very happy with how it all turned out, nice and clean :)

Also got my hands on a set of Tomei adjustable exhaust gears, should go nicely with the rest of the motor.

awesome work with the rear strut brace install, the cuts came out in the perfect spot! I need to do this myself, any chance of borrowing your 'test trims' in the future so I can get it just as bang on?

Also need to fit some bose rear boxes, just need to source some speakers first. Which speakers did you go with? 6.5's yeah?

    cheers, Tim

Yeah mate they are at my house still, I'll keep them for you. Are you coming to the BBQ?

I ended up using 6" JL speakers in the rear, but a 6.5"would be a better choice!
