    Hi,

I have put this conversion on the back burner to get some things in order and had to do some decision making on if im going to pursue the ls1 or modify the TT......kinda did both lol though in the end i have decided to keep the ls1. going manual wasnt going to get me were i wanted to be. I made a decision that track racing will be far more expensive then the odd drag night and i like going really fast :D. doing research i found that parts and performance for alot of the american gear is cost effective and theres no replacement for displacement .

anyways picked up my th400 which was in suprisingly good condition. got a bit excited on summit racing and my first package arived:

I got one of the best rebuild kits out there reccomended by a couple of people and apparently holds pretty good power. the shifter is hurst and is extremely good quality. the bellhousing is one that bolts to the front pump and will stop my legs getting chopped of when i let go of the transbrake at high rpm and the flexplate turns into a frisby. waiting on another box ATM.

will keep this post just for the gearbox with lots of photos. it is all in the installation of the parts rather then the parts themselves. cant wait to transbrake!

if anyone wants to get into drag racing even on a not so serious side i definately think th400 is the way to go IMHO

i hope some time soon to realise my end goal

nice project, T400 is definately the way to go for the 1/4. i came to the same conclusion about the cost of cicuit racing vs drag racing too. im still searching for answers on what suspension setup to go with for good launch and weight transfer.

    Nice.

Very nearly went with the 400 on mine but really wanted to keep overdrive. Why did you go transbrake though? Are you going to turbo charge it? I don't think there would be that much to gain over a decent high stall if you are staying NA. Did you keep the stock gear ratios in the box?

I went transbrake becuase of the shifting ability of the valve body. brand new clean skin valve bodies are much better then modded cast ones (from research). shifts in .03 of second or something like that......so they say. Yes stock gears in the box. I plan on turboing it after it goes over the pits. basically the radiator will be were and FMIC usually is (engineer said its fine as long as mesh in front of it) and the turbo (gt42) will be front mounted and breath directly into the intake with methonol/water injection to cool. thats the plan anyway.

I have driven a vy ss ute with gt42r. To be honest, having traction issues in fourth gear wasn't my idea of fun lol

yeah i checked with shannons my insurer and disclosed all my dreams th400 ls1 turbo and they said of course they can insure it for weekend purposes. i will run into trouble if i get pulled over by the cops and they open the bonnet and my engineering slip doesnt have "dirty great big turbo" written on it :(.

meh, you only live once mate. if you really want to build it then go for gold i reckon. there are plenty of other monster engined cars out there menacing the street.
