Hi there all, on the way back from wakefield i noticed that under acceleration the temp gauge was going eratic.it was sitting at 1/2way but then would go down to about a 1/4 and jiggle its way back to 1/2way. Doesanybody have any idea what causes this?? bad connector perhaps??also i am going to buy an aftermarket temp gauge this week, should i get an electric one or a mechanical one????? regards brett
Brett, get an electrical temp gauge...... and make sure you install the temp sender that is supplied with the gauge otherwise it will read incorrectly. If you do a search you will find lots of info relating to the procedure. On my way back from Wakefield Park my temp gauge (aftermarket) sat nice and steady but my heater core proceeded to squirt a litre or so of coolant onto the floor. I think I would prefer to do your rectification rather than mine.Good luck Ian
Had the same problem once! You must bleed the radiator you have air in the water system. The litle plastic screw on the left top side of the radiator will do the job. Just fill it up and bleed the air out. Should do the trick.Cheers, Sead!
It's probably..>> a bad main earth connection. You have a bad connection between the battery negative terminal and the motor. You can either clean the main earth connection at the back of the motor (very hard to do) or install another braided earth connection between the battery negative terminal and the motor plenum. Also, check and clean corrosion at the battery terminals.Cheers
thankyou everybody i appreciate the help. sorry to hear about that Ian.fingers crossed my heater core stays intact... :-Z
Same happened to me Brett I cleaned the battery terminals but eventually replaced the temp sensor which did the trick.Cheers Geoff
thanks geoff, ian and everyone else i will buy a new temp meter and clean the battery. ewhat wouldi do without you guys ? ? ? ? :-0 :-Z :-Z :-Z :-Z
Its the temperature sensor with the one connector on top of it. The connector has a habit of spining around its axis and with time it stops working due to poor contact with its base. With time it gets more and more loose. As you step on it the air from the fan pushes the wire back which in turn pushes the connector causing it to have poor contact with the sensor. This makes your gauge fluctuate when accelerating. It happend to me tonight and my sensor connector has the same problem as described above. Needs replacing.Peter
