I want to rebuild my engine. It doesn't NEED to be done, but i suspect it's burning oil and it's a personal goal of mine to rebuild an engine

rip it out, rebuild with forged bits, 100k service and new turbos.

however, i've never taken on something like this before.

could i get some feedback from people who have done this themselves? who may have also found the idea a bit daunting? Is it so complicated my brain would shatter?

Also, where would i find a rebuild tech? Who has done it, and how much did it cost you? (i understand cost will vary depending on turbo selection)

I also have another idea which is, buying an engine and rebuilding it, then doing a motor swap, could anyone tell if this is a bad idea? the car is currently my daily so the less time its off the road the better.

    thanks guys

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!

If you have to do it, builda motor and then swap it in...

My zed was my daily and I had the same plan as you... 4 months later it's still off te road :bash:

Plus factor in for a replacement daily driver for the time it will take.

yeah thats plus dumps and all that other gear.

Its not hard to spend 4k on the essentials for a stock build

Plus the mental suffering caused by your significant other while the car is off the road and costing you a shitload

keeping it stock is also an option, as the budget is limited.

how much would it be to rebuild with stock parts?

i'm guessing turbo rebuild would require a specialist? again cost?

    around 7k.....instead of getting your turbos rebuilt, maybe look at buying these ones;

so if those turbos are 1.5k that would mean parts for the rebuild would be 5.5?

could someone let me know what parts i'm gonna need? or direct me to a tech that will tell me?

Dont try it, get it done professionally.

Put in forged piston, get alot of parts heat protection coated, whilst the engine is out do all the other things that are difficult to get at when the engine is in, get new turbos or do a rebuild, and even getting it done professionally dont expect any change out of $10k. plus you will be with out a car for at least 4 weeks.
But having done my car 4 years back and now 50,000 kms later, it still drives like a dream.
There is no cheap way out of a rebuild.

ok mate I'm in the process of doing this now, I got a pair of the hyper gear turbos. kept all the internals stock, just new gaskets, rings, bearings, got the 100k kit, new head bolts, heads machined ($440 base price +up to $250ish more if you need a new set of valves, which I have been advised is fairly common)

I also bought a few other things that werent entirely necessary such as bigger radiator and new dump pipes. So far the total is at about $4800ish and thats just for the parts and no labor (except getting the heads machined.) so yeah I'd say if your going new turbos with your rebuild, then allow at least $5000.
