hey guys how do you fella keep your targa space (where they slot in on the roof) so clean... i remember seeing dubs pics and id bloody eat out of them... i went over mine a few times, even with a tooth brush... still not as spiffy.

what do you guys think about going in there with a light cut n polish. n waxing in there?

do you guys normally give yours a cut/polish or what.

ironic its freezing outside yet i got sweat dripping off me haha.

    cheers S-box.

i was thinking of going over all the exernal rubbers with armourall/mcguires quick detail. or are you supposed to use some special stuff specifically for the outside black bits?

p.s. ima goin in with the cut n polish then! may aswell put a wee bit of wax in there too, couldnt hurt.

Armorall is EVIL i tells ya!

Looks and feels good at the time but eventially it will kill whatever your using it on, dry it out and crack it.

I think I remember reading it's actualy a solvent. I will never touch any car I own with the stuff.

Others may disagree and that's cool. Just my 2c, but my opinion is based on fact (can't back that up with any info though at this stage lol) :)

lol cheers ben, i love the way mcguires holds up against the whether, but it never looks as nice after applied as armour all :D

dude i went in there all bad with the cut and polish... man all my baby needed was some old school TLC! so thats what i gave her, 3 hours of love makin and now she is looking DAMN fine!!!

the amount of crap i got off with the armourall off the rubbers man...shocking! but after the polish in there, man dub aint got nuthin on me! ( dont take that literally his car is mint).

tmr or maybe tonight im going in with the WAX bwahaha! anyone got any advice for waxing using the "just apply" stuff. as in its not wax on wax off, its just, apply the wax, remove exess... now shes tight. (mcguires wax).

ive done liquid and wax on wax off but never this stuff before.

yeah i remember reading here that professional detailers (eg where you take your Ferrari f355; god i love that car ever since the DC game)
    use Baby oil.
i gave it a go and its fantastic, turned my mates 1988 saab into a brand new car.
    we used Johnsons massage blend.
mmm massaging your zed with baby oil. the bottle also comes in handy when youve finished; not that im implying anything of course

lol bad simon, i said ive used that... but this stuff if just stuff you apply...

baby oil ey, sounds good... i was thinking something like that, at maccas we used to cheat and put butter (liquid) on the grills after cleaning them to make em look squeaky clean.

any other lil tips. also u know them strips that line the top of the targa next to the paint... its like painted metal... mines really worn, reccon i should sand em down or just leave em as is?

scump, with paste type waxes (ie non liquid) don't go too overboard with the applicator... if you put heaps on it'll be a PITA (pain in the arm) to get rid of the residue. It's better to apply a very small amount, let it haze a little and then buff until you can only see the shine and no hazy wax parts (remember straigh line hand motions not circles like mr. miyagi said otherwise you'll get swirls) and then if you want a deeper shine then apply another coat and repeat. Applying too much wax means sometimes the car will still feel waxy and it just won't look as good.
When I was detailing our cars (water restrictions killed my home detailing) I'd use 2 coats on the main body of the car and 3 coats on the roof, bonnet and boot lid. These are the horizontal surfaces so basically it's what people will look at for the shine. The Sides and front and back are vertical so water will run off them and not collect like it would on a flat surface.
Are you using a synthetic wax or a Caranuba wax? Caranuba waxes would give you the showcar shine but a synthetic wax should last alot longer (good for if your car is a daily driver) but is more expensive too.
Good luck with it. One day I'll detail the Zed and I'll put up a thread on how a newb detailer like myself does it.

    hey sandeep!

yeh the paste ones i class as wax on wax off.... but this one!

its called "americas #1 cleaning wax" its not actually a paste, shes solid. which makes me think synthetic not carnuba?

ive never used this type before? any advice for that one?

and yah i know not to use circles.

i was also going to ask, when removing the hazed polish, is it better to use a firm direct motion, or a less firm more rapid motion, i done a mix of the 2... but after a while of firmness my arm dies ey.

ill prolly do what you said then, 3 coats on the tops and 2 on the sides, cheers mate.

ok so this is going to sound really dirty... but i'm refering to car detailing so no smart comments...

but when I'm removing wax I use the quick method rather than pressing harder... not really sure why but I before I first started I read alot of detailing articles on the net and they said to use the rapid buffing motion rather than pressing hard.
I think Zanjara is the detailing expert here. So in regards to the solid wax, I guess you should PM him because I've only ever used paste waxes (they're like butter in terms of softness).

hmm, what type of butter, its pretty cold.. so do you mean like butter thats been in the fridge? or warm butter?

looks like ill stick to the rapid motion then, ill search up zanjaras old guide n see if he mentions hard wax's.

the stuff i got, i tipped the tin upside down n it went ding, as it slid from one side to the other.. i pressed it and didnt even leave a indent nor get any on me... so no way id call it a paste.

ill shoot him a pm about wax's n see if he knows about em too.

    cheers mate.

p.s. si, u wax over your rubbers n plastics? :S

ok zanjara cleared it up for me, hes a champ.

turns out it is a paste, just clogged up cos of the cold temps at the moment.

and also on the website it actually is a Hazer. while on the tin it doesnt list it... so my advice people check on the internet aswell! Nath pointed out that alot of things leave out propper instructions, so it may pay off.

It sure is a paste thats for sure... hehe the cold can make it stick to the tin and make it harder to get out... Its a downside to pastes in tins in a tube its ok... Its new so being all sealed up can do it as well.. Once you use it it will soften up a bit and will be easy to get out well so it should... just have to really get into it for it to come alive lol :D :p

With this type of wax it goes on and you leave it till it hazes over then once it has hazed over you wipe it clear... It also will leave a little light dusting thats what i hate about some products is the dusting on some...

Dont wax your rubbers use a product designed just for rubbers...
