My pass side taillights have stopped working, and after searching (for some reason there is nothing under tailllights in the tech section:confused: ) I tried to do the black box bypass. But when I got it out, I couldn't locate any shorts, it still looks brand new. Ive checked all bulbs and they all work, no visible damage to the wiring and I don't have a multimeter or test light to check if they're getting power. Im not sure what to do now. Any ideas ??

You can find cheap multimeters from any bunnings store. Have you studied the factory service manual under the electrical system of brake lights?

Pulling the black box out is not doing the bypass.

You need to make up the three sets of wired spade terminals and push them into the socket where the black box used to go.

By the way, when you have a short, a fuse will blow. When stuff like globes don't work you are not looking for short circuits, you are looking for open circuits.

If your wiring is intact, and the fuse in not blown, and you have working globes - it is the black box. So many of us have been down this road.

if the black box is faulty, multimeter will show full voltage in parallel but once you hook it up in series with the bulb it drops to 0.44V.

had same problem, just bypass it. much easier than stuffing around with other crap.

ok guys, just did a little test, bridged the sockets with a little bit of wire each, and voila, working again. nI'll do it properly tomorrow. I pulled the black box apart looking for signs of damage, but there was none, but should have tested this first. Cheers, Jordan.

You won't see any, as I didn't. Some of the solder joints need a fresh re-soldering and everything should work perfectly again. Takes about 5 mins :)

No Guarantee though! I gave my faulty black box the once over with the soldering iron & its still no good! Obviously some of the components must be damaged thus making it a little harder to find & fix?? - in which case the bypass is probably now my best option! ;)

Yeah it would get a bit fiddly if some components are faulty. If you pack the black box with my other stuff I can have a go at fixing it for you :D

Thanks for the offer Kev!.......but I just took the working box out of my other Z! I'll just bypass the new TT! - with LED's in all the lights I used to end up with the 'bulb out' warning light coming on when I braked! - even with added resistance in the light wiring circuit to compensate! - so the bypass will also solve this issue for me! 2 birds with 1 stone! ;)
