    Hi

Anyone got any ideas on how to remove an oil filter that wont budge. Iv'e turned it into swiss cheese trying to put a screw driver through and turn it, but wont budge... just slicing through the metal casing. And yes i am turning it the right way.....

Cheers guys any help would be appreciated.

Get a oil filter attachment for a socket wrench, well worth the money!

That's why you should never do that

The ones that go on sockets are the best IMO. Good for doing stupid FWD's too. If you are only going to be working on Zeds then get the handle one.

I use large multi grips, they work on the smallest filters all the up to filters 6" in diameter.

I think it was LowZX that said "Hold oil filter, turn car" I learn a lot from him. :)

and when my filter was stuck on the zed.. i put 2 big screw drivers through it and turned it.. (bending one of the screw drivers, almost a cm in diameter)... a fuel filter wrench just didnt help..

    Solved

To a trip to supercheap and decided one of these

Did wonders even with the tight space and the cumpled remains of the filter.

Damn so relieved when it finally let go :D.

    Thanks for the help,

i know its a commo.. because its a side mounted filter on a commodore... alot of people do it form the top but for some reason i find it easier to do it from the bottom because theres nothing in your way...

Yeah i started from the bottom but then went from the top. With the battery removed it gives much more room to get a lever or wrench around it.

I know you've got it off, but I highly rate this tool :

you use it as a socket, it clamps tighter when undoing, never had an issue :)

    Glad you got it off.

Personally I HATE that tool. I borrowed my mates one and no matter how tight I tried to do it up, it slipped like a bitch.

I prefer the ones posted by 300zxt

The rubber just grips so much better. And the "pull off, grip on" action is perfect.

    Best tool I've purchased :D

Thing is, if the filter is being such a bitch, someone put it on waaaay too tight or it's cross threaded...or it's just been on there waaaaaaaaay too long :D lol

I've got one of them on use on all our cars except the zx.For that i bought one of the proper fitting filter cap sockets. It's unreal. It just goes over the end of the filter.Got it at a market for $5.Beats buying a complete kit for about a $100.

This is by far the best. The band ones need to much space and always slip
