im in the middle of a rebuild and tring to decide if going a little over board is worth it eg new turbos ecu injectors etc the list goes on and my wallet cries in pain. my question is how do Z's with big HP cope on the street. This car will be more of a weekend car than a daily driver but i will still need it for that odd trip of 1000km or so . any thought on the subject are most welcome

if you're rebuilding, then u might as well go the whole hog

turbo's and socket+tune and yeah yeah yeah she cried more more more! with a rebel yell, she cried more more more! MORE MORE MORE!

that is what the chick says when you're planting your foot after she asked for u to take her for a spin in your magnificent beast... and funnily enough, it's also what she cries for later that night ;)

having a high HP zed is not much different to having a stock zed really, if you keep the rpms below 4000 its fine. the big power doesnt hit until you hit over 4000. so you can just putt around town like normal.

    If i were u

While u are doing an engine rebuild i would be doing the things like interneals eg. pistons, rods, cams etc.
Then when u have more money u can do the other "external mods" in the future:D

yea thats already been bought and is being ballanced. ive got acl forged pistons scat rods all arp bolts new oil and water pump new jwt valve springs gates timing belt so with the bottom end done properly im now deciding on the top end that makes all the power . im thinking of leaving the cams standard as the can be changed with the motor in the car but i was thinking on a set of bigger turbos and 555 injectors and a heltech as well as getting the heads flowed and installing the frount mount i just ordered of jamesz007 does any one have any thoughts on this as this is my first ever rebuild

and thanks for the comments so far Scrubber

The difference in driveability is not the stronger components, its the tune that drives it. A good tune will have a good cold start map and will be tuned to be responsive througout the rev range.

That is pretty much the bottom end done as you say, however for the measely cost, i'd change the bearings, it's one of the last few things down there that are what 10-15 years old and still original, if doing work on the crank you can easily fit toga oversize bearings to match, again quite cheap parts really.
After that yep 555's, a good intercooler set up and decent turbos and the final icing on the cake is in the mapping, with those mods you'll see some nice figures. Porting the heads has only realy proved beneficial for the BIG BHP boys as the heads have not been found to be restrictive to certain levels, same goes for the fuel pump. At the end of the day the mapping is the secret to a good reliable fast Zed, so don't scrimp on that part ;)

Further more, its personal preference... I for one eventually will like to be in the BIG HP range BUT thats not what everyones preference is. You wont be able to use 400+rwkw on the street no doubt and if your do your an idiot because it just spells death.. But if it was for track or strip then yeah why not.....

Seeing as that you are in the process of rebuiling, you might as well spend the extra $$$$$ and go the extra step... Better to have more than less i always say....

Do some careful investigation and find the optimum setup for your needs.....

I think that's correct about the heads, they are already well designed. There isn't that many Z's which have proved that porting the heads etc makes a real-world difference in it's performance. I just decided to do it because I am pretty much doing as much as I can without going over the top.

    streetability?

i dont beleive streetability and forged pistons should really be used in the same sentence this is my opinion but for the majority of zeds out there if you pull the engine apart most still have the hone marks in the bores. Everyone thinks forged pistons are great but for a street car im not as convinced, however this is not my car and i just wanted to add my 2 cents goodluck with the rebuild.
