Yeah in hindsight that might have been a better idea. I was kind of worried the engine would overrev though. If it was a turbo, i imagine the shift of weight from braking would have caused the rear wheels to lose traction pretty quick The more i think about it the more i am thankful i didnt get into an accident because of this. The night it happened, my gf was supposed to drive my car into the city to pick me up - but she had to work late. Imagine if it happened when she was driving!? Anyway, i am going to try an ECU reset tonight to see if the extra air makes any difference...
Maybe if the throttle was stuck partially open. But if it's stuck wide open sticking it in neutral is a pretty good way of blowing your engine. I guess it depends where you are, sometimes a blown engine might be the preferable alternative.
and that is why... you do all your own work rather than trusting mechanics.. At least you found the cause of the problem, well done... Cheers
really really lucky! at least for once youve had some good luck with it not being sucked through the motor, otherwise your mechanic would be sourcing yet another motor for you..... what car is that in anyway?
This is the second engine swap i have had where i found mysterious leftovers from the install process (different installers). In my Celica i found a spanner and a pipe wrench stuffed in the bowels of the engine bay. Now this. I am still considering another engine swap on this car though; but this time it would be a DIY job. When i got this done i already had a Y31 Cima with a VG30DET and i thought "I dont need 2 turbo cars, not worth the trouble". But since then i sold the Cima, and now i am stuck with the NA engine, which is slow and misfires on idle. So lately i have been thinking of putting a VG30DET in there... But with my recent property purchase it may be a while before i spend that kinda money on this car Jinxed... its a Y32 Cedric, offered in VG30DE and DET variants
