Hi guys, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction with this. My car has developed a strange problem over the last month or two. The problem happens pretty much every morning and then goes away untill the next morning. Symptoms below:

    1. Start car in morning with no issues
    2. Drive about 2-3km's down the rd with no issues
    3. Suddenly nothing happens when pushing on accelerator
    4. Pull over and car is idling fine
    5. While idle I try reving the engine but it gets to 2000rpm and then falls back to zero. every 2nd or third rev will rev correctly past 2000rpm.
    6. Turn the car off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on.
    7. Everythings fine now so drive 50km to work.
    8. Drive 50km home from work without issues.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Appreciate any suggestions.

limited revs sounds like an AFM problem.
Unplug the AFM (under the nose panel) clean the contacts and plug in.

yes it sound exactly like your AFM isnt working

when you do get it out..

i would suggest investing in this..
    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NA1004

spray some on and get a tooth brush and clean the crap out of it.. then spray some more in and shake it clean.. then allow to dry and plug back in..

while you have the can and your hands dirty. may as well do the PTU, CAS, Coilpacks, etc.

    good luck
and let us know if this fixes the problem

Check out the crank angle sensor.I'm not familiar with this failing on the 300zx but I know when this goes on a holden v6 commodore you can get similar problems. ( the instant cure and conformation on the commodore is to pour water over the crank angle sensor,Cooling it reduce the resistance and your off again until it happens again ) Not suggesting this would work for 300zx but symtoms sound the same. if the other theads don't work concentrate on this and rule it out.

Also check over all your electrical connectors (TPS, AFM, and CAS) in particular.

You should also check the car with conzult while this is happening to see if any weird values appear.

    Hey,
I am having same issue. I bought the car as a project so I have just had heads re-done, new MAF, timing belt, new O2 sensors, EGR delete, new spark plugs, new injectors+injector clips/plugs.
After about 15 - 20 min warm up, I get the same rev patterns and sometimes stall.

Again like you, revs die, can pump it and maybe get over 2000revs but if I de-clutch the motor dies. Sometimes it will stay running at low revs but other times will stall.

If I turn off motor, wait a few minutes it will start and I get a few more km's down the road. I tried the commute but it's too dodgy for peak hour traffic!

Let me know if you win and I'll let you know if anything works out at my end.

(For those who saw my last post, I now have correct injectors fitted - thanks to Australian Fuel Injectors for helping out on that one.)

    Cheers
