HowdyHad my NA tuned a few weeks ago and the timing was advanced to 14 degrees but started to ping, bummer as it was going sweet! So had the timing put back to 10 degrees but it still pings( just a little) ie up hill in 4th. I only ever use Optimax. Can anyone give me an idea on what to check for in relation to this as I don't want to retard the timing to much more or I'll be able to run faster, and if you've seen me run you know I aint fast, cepting dinner time of course. But I begin to ramble...Cheers

    How about fuel system.....>>

Clogged filters or injectors and a dying pump can cause a car to run slightly lean, which also adds to pinging.

    Have you tried pressure testing....

....the intake and plenum?, maybe you have a leak somewhere

    Bad fuel or ?

We have had a run on cars pinging or running lean lately. Lots have blocked fuel filters even if not very long since they replaced. Maybe some bad or dirty fuel getting around. Simple check is remove your fuel filter and sit it on a clear glass bottle or in a white cup and let it drain and see if grit and muck and dark colour as we have been finding. If so replace filter. It could be other things but check this first. Check fuel flow and fuel pressure. Could also be old spark plugs, fuel computer not increasing volts as revs increase, pressure reg and more.
We had a zed on dyno the other day and all good and started to run out of fuel, so went and got some premium unleaded from down the road at petrol station which we always use and never a prob and put it in and pinged instantly. Added octane booster and all fixed but never had this before.PS If you drive whilst pinging you WILL wear or damage your motor.

Thanks guys. It looks like it was a dodgy

temperature sensor. Had a new one put in Friday and it went great without a hint of ping since.Cheers
