    hi guys,

    im still in shock ,

basically at about 0600 hrs theres a knock on my front door and its the cops,
some jackass in a ve commodore basically plowed into my zed and that has in turn killed the honda parked ahead.

luckily the cops were just around the corner and witnessed the incident.

got the details of the guy and he's insured through aami.

the damage on my rear right panel is quite severe with cracked rims and the axle ( if thats what you call the part the wheel's bolten onto ) is completely bent. the doors dont open either. the bomex fiberglass front bumpers finished but the radiator and support bracket's intact.

the guy who toe'd the cars thinks the panel will fix it but i suspect the chasis is shaken since the doors wont open on either side.

whats the go ? any one had any similar experience ? would that be a complete right off ?? whats the market value of zed's these days ??

I know exactly how you feel. I came out to my car one morning to find it destroyed and yours sounds like a write off unfortunatley (so was mine). I had exaclty the same thing happen to my comodore, smashed hard in the rear and hit the car parked in front. Buy back the wreck as most people do and get another zed.

I really feel horible for you, I know what it's like.

anyways ..im wondering what aami would offer though ... does anyone know what options aami basically gives ?? buy back the wreck and a monetary compensation ...or just a compensation ?

im shittin myself cuz a friend of mine got offerred 3 grands plus the wreck for 98 civic by aami. ?

if so what are my options if im not happy with their offer ?

take the money and get another zed...

if parts on ur zed are still in good conditon (seats and trims, engine bay parts) then buy it back if the price is right and part it out..

where abouts u located for something like this to happen?

Wow, Its pretty much every Z owners worse nightmare ay, it seems to be happening allot latly :S

But yer, look through for sale threads to get yourself an idea on the money you could get for parting out the parts you could, price it all up then see if its worth buying back..

Also, you could use these parts in your next Z, I know they are cheaper if theres just odds and ends missing or damaged.

didnt read past that bit. sorry to hear it mate. your car is wrecked. as said, consider buying the wreck off the insurer and start again with a new zed. I would be doing everything i can to have the car written off. one door not opening can be from panels moving. two doors not opening is a bent car. a panel beating race car engineering friend of mine told me to never ever touch a car that has been straightened. they are never the same and the fact is that the chassis metal has fatigued massively by being bent and then rebent. also *most* shops aren't exactly scientific in their approach when they straighten a car.

again sorry to hear that mate.:mad2:

    Ah!! Guys

I'm sorry to hear his car got hit too.
But, he is not insured with aami, the other guy was & is therefore responsible to replace or fix his car to the same condition it was before this twit hit it.
Also I doubt that the other guys insurance company can take his car, considering it is not insured with them. He should not have to pay one red cent to claim his own car back from aami, it's not theirs to start with.
Don't let them Rail Road you mate.:mad2:
If his insurance company does a deal with aami, then still aami have to pay out the comprehensive policy or whatever he had the car insured for with his company.:)
    Cheers

    Oh!!! and another thing..
If he has not insured the Zed, then he may have to have it valued, as to determine the condition it was in prior to the accident, taking into account the damage caused by the accident.
Minimum he should recieve is Book Valuation on the Model of his Zed.
But personally, if they do that, I'd fight the buggers in court.

    Agree 100%.
He has no contract with AAMI and is not a customer of theirs. Therefore, AAMI has no legal or contractual entitlement to salvage rights on his Zed, nor do they have any rights to "write off" his vehicle(they may have a limit to how much financial obligation they have).
This is only if he does not have a policy on his car with another insurer, as most insurance companies have a so called "knock for knock agreement" which means that each company takes care of it's own customers damage, regardless of who is at fault.
Under these circumstances his own insurer CAN "write off" his Zed.

    im getting lost...

so whos zed we talking about?

also i dont think aami will cover the accident no matter how the VE commodore driver argues in court... drink driving voids the insurance claim doesnt it?

I think that might be the case, it may be possible to sue the driver for damages but who knows.

i though if u drive in a unroadworthy state (either car unroadworthy or person) then the insurance company wont care about u... u can claim all u want and the insurance company will not cover you for anything...

All of this raises a question I don't know the answer to.

Everyone knows that your insurance is voided if you have an accident while over the limit, and this guy seems to qualify on that score.

However, does cover for third parties (a la our Indian sexual contortionist) get voided too? leaving our poor Zedder to claim on his own insurance, with only the ugly and expensive civil suit as a fallback?
