    Hi,

I'm still having problems fitting the FMIC from the group buy a couple of months ago. I'm stuffed if I can get a filter to fit behind the FMIC.

Even without a filter fitted the air flow meter is almost touching the FMIC, and if I angle it down as much as possible there is no way to get a filter to fit between the FMIC and the factory oil cooler.

I've taken a few pictures. Can anyone see what is wrong?

I had the same problem, i originally had a K&N but after the FMIC was put it was a extremely tight fit so i got rid of it.Buy the small drift pod filters, its still a tight fit. But it fits well better than others. It worked for me, hope that helps.

Is that the Universal Drift ones

you get from Autobarn? If so, I bought one this afternoon and it's still an issue fitting. I can bend the rubber part the AFM is on, but then the filter won't go between the oil cooler and the FMIC.

I'm starting to wonder if the very end points where the intercooler is bolted to, have been bent or pushed back....I know it should be a tight fit, but the fact I can't get anything to fit down there, is making me wonder. Thing is the front bar fits on fine.

Really giving me the shits now, as finially have the car back but can't drive it :(

    Cheers

Top of T-pipe should sit further back ~ almost against the bonnet latch. Try loosening both 'arms' where they clamp on to hard pipes and massage the T-pipe back and up toward rad support/bonnet latch.

A bit of KY will help Rob's 'massage'

An Apexi filter may help too.

KY is not recommended, LANOLIN a much better lube IMHO.

PS: Zedmeister says Hello, saw him at the boat show ... looking for another Zed :zlove:

    At this stage I

was thinking petrol and a match might help it as well :)

I could then part out whats left over and buy another one.....

If I had no more luck I was going to order an Apexi unit, but between yesterday and today I now have four filters sitting in the garage, worth a few hundred $. Hopefully I can get my money back :)

    Who is Zedmeister?

    Hi Mark,

I also could not get the AFM and Apexi air filter to fit onto the end of the T piece and between the FMIC and radiator/oil cooler.

Further to the post I made on this, I bought some 3" exhaust pipe with a 90 degree bend and had them flare it as close to the bend as they could to the size of the AFM (80mm I think). This end goes into the T piece with the other end swinging down diagonally toward the bottom left corner of the radiator. This pipe is black in the pic below - ignore the fingerprints on it. I then used a piece of 3" diameter silicon hose to connect this pipe to the AFM. It's a tight fit to get the 3" silicon to fit on the 80mm end of the AFM, but I used a bit of vaseline (couldn't afford KY:eek: :p ), then bolted on the Apexi air filter. The connector still reaches fine to the AFM's new location.

I also needed to (carefully) bend the A/C piping out of the way.

If you can get 80 mm 90 degree bent pipe and silicon hose to suit, then all the better.

btw I got the silicon hose from a tractor parts place.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the reply Peter.

I did see your pictures and was thinking of doing the same. I just don't get why the need though. It doesn't make sense that some people can get it to fit and others can't.

I measured the distance between the oil cooler bracket and the back of the FMIC and it's only 8 cms. Bugger all room.

I bought both a 45 and a 90 degree 3" pipe at autobarn this afternoon just in case I needed to do the same as you. Problem is I didn't notice till tonight that it isn't metal, but thin cheap plastic (very very thin cheap plastic). I don't know if I would trust it to not break apart.....might have to do until I can get some pipe bent I guess.

Well I'm going to have dinner and then go out and give it another go....

Mark. I had to remove my pod in my FMIC installation for rego.

BUT I did discover that if you take the stock airbox and cut the entire sides out of it. It leaves you with a really free flowing intake and the bugger still sits behind the nose panel perfectly with the FMIC in place.

If I wasnt set on fitting the UAS nose cone. I would just leave it there and buy K&N filters for the box

Best part is that you cant see past it to see if you have bovs if you get stopped.

I also don't understand why some can get it to fit while others can't.

My FMIC is mounted right up against the chasis rails. I guess if some mounted their intercoolers just a tiny bit further forward, then maybe that could make the differrence.

In the end I was happy to get the air filter into cleaner air.

    Good luck.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Yeah I tried drilling the mounting

holes out a little further on the bracket, just to make the FMIC sit a cm or so further off the rails....but it wasn't enough to make any real difference.

Despite it being friggin cold here and also 10pm I'm about to go outside and have another crack at this bastard.

I run twin airpods so I have double the trouble !!!!

    but.....

I was in supacheap yesterday and found some alloy addaptors that bolt onto the end of the AFM :D

    then ......

I found a nice 3" 90degree bend, also in alloy

    then.......

I noticed they had a full "U bend" in 3" alloy

they also had plastic chromed 90 & 60 degree bends, plenty of silicone hoses in all sorts of shapes n sizes.

I'm going to take a few pics ..... & the afm & pods and some measurements down to the shop next time I'm there and do some "in-store" retro fitting...... after I find the combination I want, the tig welder will be getting a workout ;)
