Hey just wondering if anyone knew what was causing my steering to suddenly stiffen while driving, it will be smooth and easy to turn then all of a sudden stiffens up...

It doesnt effect the steering at all apart from the fact it takes a little bit more effort.

Also i just had the rack reconditioned but this was happening before i did this.

Just lookin for any ideas on what it might be, Thanks :D

Could be either your speedo sensor or the sensor on your steering rack (controls the speed sensitive power steering)

Try cleaning the plug and socket to the steering solenoid, it sits very low and picks up all the crap. Has just worked on one of mine.

what fluid are you running in it? Auto Transmission fluid, or PS fluid?
PS fluid did all kinds of funky sh$t to mine. Was a looong and painful procedure to rectify it. Might have invented a few new profanities throughout it all.

Too many rums for you me thinks...
You used power steer stop leak in yours which pretty much glued everything together. ATF D3 is what you want.

Op, does your odometer stop working when your steering is stiff?

There was method to me asking. OP mentioned that he had just had his rack rebuilt, and that the problem was existing prior. Possibility that he used a stop leak product.

I had this happen a couple of years ago and it was due to a faulty speed sensor.
