Ok so i have installed my stereo, and i blew both accessory and constant fuses, my own fault not part of the query, stereo had same issue beforehand, but what i noticed is it did not blow both stereo fuses,it blew stereo fuse and one fuse for all my interior lights and open door switch, have i wired it wrong accessory is blue and constant is yellow as per all threads i have read on here (it is different from the tech section cosi dont have a red wire apparently only later models have that wiring diagram, so is it wired wrong or is it as it is supposed to be? threads say yes, fuses that i blew say no.

Just so you know the circumstances of me blowing the fuses was cos i dont know how to use a multimeter and had it on the wrong setting. So was not accidentally crossed wires or something i was testing constant and accessory

the constant for the radio is on the same circuit as the interior lights in almost all cars, the acc wire is grounded when the key isn't switched to accesories. hook them both up properly and replace the fuses, if the fuses blow again you have hooked it up wrong. If the radio stays on with the key out then you have them back to front

Also in mainstream headunits the blue is for remote on (turning amps on) and the blue/white is for power arial's. The red is the accesories wire for the headunit

    multimeter... old school style...

when ur testing i would recommend using a 12V test light... cheap as....
and u use a 9V batt to check for speakers...
u will prob never blow a fuse....
and wen u say blue is accessories?... is that off the factory loom or off the aftermarket loom coz blue is either remote (amp) or power antenna.. dont get it wrong coz u can seriously damage the headunit..

there isnt.. i think what ur talking about is one is constant and the other is accessories...

edit: accessories fuse should be inside the car... constant fuse should be under the hood..

well if you know what you are doing why get help from 2 installers? Why not just check for the wires you need with the multimeter? all you need is a switched 12V for the red wire in the headunit loom and a constant 12V for the yellow wire in the loom. Any wires that do this from the factory stereo loom will be fine.

if there was already a aftermarket unit in it cut that loom out.. never trust the work of other people even if they are professionals because u never know they might have done a mistake and u will bear their mistakes..

yeah head unit is working but found it odd that it is wired through the illumination circuit, and also cos the head unit has a really high power draw it would be better off on its own circuit contant power draws around 20amps and i think accessory draws about 14amps

yeah there was and i wired it up same but checked with multimeter and checked with forum so seams right but still wondering why it blows an illumination fuse rather than one of the 2 stereo fuses

i know y... what happens is that the earth for the headunit is not supose to be earthed to the loom it is to the chas of the car...
what is happenin is that it is earth to the illumination of the loom and when u turn on ur light it will blow the fuse... try earthing the unit to the chas of the car... (i earthed mine to the mounting bracket and it earths though to the chas.

Sorry should have made clear,i blew the fuses for not knowing how to use a multimeter, it is earthed to chassis, but wondering why i blew one of the audio ones and one illumination one when there is 2 audio ones in the zed

alot of cars u need to check.. how u do this is when u connect ill... there will be a complete circuit but when u turn on the headlights it will go out....that would be the illumination.. if u cannot find the earth on the loom it will have to be earthed to the chas of the car....(the mounting bracket is normally a good way because thats how the old unit was earthed..

Like I said, in most cars the constant is the interior light circuit. Could the two audio fuses be for the optional upgraded double DIN stereo?
