    Afternoon all.

Been hunting around for most of the day talking to numerous suppliers and resellers about stainless steel exhaust flanges and v band flange kits. To which no one has or can quote me a price on.

So im back here, asking, all the members that have built there own exhaust systems. Where do you source your parts from?

Ive got magnaflow mufflers already from the GB held last year, and am looking at buying some magnaflow catalytic convertors from summit racing, as the pricing is the best to date. Local stockists said i can get the 53006 cats for $280 the pair. How reasonable is this in your thoughts? Considering the GB was $219 iirc. Summit is a similar price to this delivered.

    Tubing im getting from Metaland. $120 for 304 @ 6 meters, and or $180 for 316 @ 6 meters.

To which i ask what would be the better option. Ive read the differences between 304 and 316, however for an exhaust, would it be a much of a muchness? Anyone care to share their thoughts. Im going to reread Chrispy's thread from when he DIY'd his own. From what he mentioned about the grade of pipe to use. But any extra info would be great.

So if you can share with me the best place to purchase 3 bolt flanges and v band flange kits from, that would be great.

    Thankyou.

Chris, Summit Racing have the V bands. as for the three bolt flanges I make my own (or get them water cut).
I prefer to use 304 as it is less susceptible to brittle fractures do to hot working, and crystalisation. But if you want nice and shinny stuff 316 is the go.

Thanks dave, from what ive seen on summit the v band kits are $60 plus. And the flanges, thats not a bad idea. Who do you use for your laser cutting?

304 is the cheapest too, so bonus there. No need for shine. Have you seen where we live haha.

No I haven't seen where you live.......tech day your house ;)

That is not too bad for a v band kit, unless you want to have a cheap mld steel one.

I only use water jet cutter, no heat effected zone. I do up DWG files and just email it to jet fox.

(doing a run of profile with him soon, If you want to jump in).

Hi Kiff. I have seen them yes. Thought they were quiet expensive for what they are... But maybe it's the norm. First time I'm to use them.

Other peoples thoughts? $60 about the norm for v band kits?

I'll be using these on my exhaust (was even thinking of putting them between the 3" dumps and test pipes)

thats a decent price on ebay (save on shipping with extra purchases)

there are these types as well that unclip at the back.

No shit, $60-$65 ain't bad considering afterall. Those from best mufflers at $85 look interesting. Still probably prefer the conventional design.

I think looking at them they seem excessive in price due to my not having a lot of personal experience with them, where as I've become desensitized by looking at them used all the time on custom manifolds and turbo dumps etc etc.

Going to have to double check how many I plan to use.

Also going to do the exhaust in a lobster tail design.

Lots of fun time ahead :D

Need 2x 3 bolt ss flanges, 6m of 304 2.5" pipe, 2 or 4 v band clamp kits, 2x magnaflow cats from summits, ss hot dogs (yeah I know I know - trying to reproduce the same note we have ATM with the crook exhaust we have now) and the already new magnaflow mufflers.

Joy to my weekends under thd zed.

So you can see why I'm bothering.
This is our exhaust as it is ATM. Pretty tired and sad old system. The pipe work is so thin and rusted out any holes aren't feasible with a welder. Ever in thx lowest setting. I had a hard enough time just putting thd new mufflers on as it was, kept chasing the burnt rust holes.

So my easy fix is some high temp silicone, bit of tin sheet rounded off and a hose clamp.

These holes are as a result where the original rods were weld in place to hold both exhausts together as one. Average design if you ask me.

The holes in the pipe were around the same size as your thumb nail. In the carport after the manual gb installation, I had it running without the holes plugged. Reminded me of the delorian from back to the future when they're revving it up. Had a very odd and unique sound about it. Sounded great on ramp up, but throttle down it sounded like ass. Literally.

Anyways that's my story for tonight.
