My speedo is playing up. Works some times then not. Doing 80 reads 20. Reads 100 can drop to 0 all of a sudden. You get the picture. Any ideas on fix. Taco works, and everything else on the instrument panel is ok.
re speedo a2zed i have auto does your suggestion still apply is it the same set up on auto or manual thanks bigmax
Yes it does Max, as a2zed said check too see if it is flush and clean http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_images/Speed_Sensor_Tip.pdf is how it should look, if it is okay possibility it is stuffed and you need a new one OR it maybe just be you need too remove your dash cluster and get it fixed.
Max if you need your speedo calibrated or fixed, there is a shop near Dandenong which i used to get my speedo calibrated...cant remember their name but if i remember correctly, they were the only closest ones & the other being in bendigo. They also had the option of putting gauge rings, etc if you wanted to do so at the same time. They will need the speedo off the car, otherwise they wont touch it. Abraham
Hi Max , I think there is a sensor on the steering rack that the wires break on ( someone maybe able to post a picture ). On mine it was a dry soldered joint that just needed resoldering on the back of the speedo ( very easy to fix ). I have a spare dash cluster here if you need it to try or maybe one of the Melbourne guys has a spare you could try as that will tell you where need to trouble shoot quickly. Does this mean your Zed is back on the road . Cheers Dave
The steering rack wiring is for the speed sensitive solenoid, control how heavy the steering is at speed. Nothing to do with miss-reading speedo.
as well as the soldered joints, check the screws on the back on the cluster. IIRC, there are 4 for directly mounting the speedo and another above the speedo itself, with an ohms reading adjacent to the screw. Had a Mines 300km speedo that was giving intermittant readings which was rectified by tightening the screws.
yes dave the z is back Dave z is running again, did the 100 km service motor goes great now running 18 psi at the moment. My son and i did the job. Graham tektrader helped me with the leaking steering pump did a good job. Only problem now is when i give it a bit of stick at hi boost the tail shaft bearing to the auto must leak onto the exhaust pipe, causing a trail of white smoke, then i back off and it clears up. That is my next job on the list. Apart from that it is going well ,should be back cruising again that is if one is planned. It has backed off again as far as cruising is concerned maybe winter hibernation again common problem i guess. i think turbos love the cool air dont you. Top off cool crisp air no heat beating down on you arse. Great pity not many others think so in melbourne. Hence cruises die off
