I bought the 6inch splits today from Jaycar

$139 Now all I have to do is install them and try to do the doors like Jedi's awesome recent write up.

    Thanks for all the advice
    Cheers

    6 inch splits

    are the way to go.

If you can find someone with a drill and a hole-punching adaptor set for the drill, you can mount the tweeters up at the top of the door (facing towards you). Makes great sound. No need for rears - I have MTX brand splits MTX 10 inch sub with MTX 4-channel amp, plus Sony head unit. Fantastic surround sound feel! Is easy to adjust dispersment of sound with tweeters - and you can play around with how much boost/fade you have from your sub to make it perfect for you.

    2 x 12" Subs + Splits

    Hi,

I am running Pioneer headdeck, pioneer splits up front and a double 12" Pioneer Sub on the backseats (until custom mould gets fabricated for the boot). With one monoblock and one two channel Audiobahn amp running it all.

I ended up disconnected the rear speakers as they couldn't keep up with the main system even though they are JBL's I think i might try some Jaycar 5 x 8's (or whatever the actual measurement is) ones providing they fit....... As I'm trying to keep it stealth looking.

As a sound engineer by trade I feel that in my car (2 + 2) that there is something missing in the rear (as there is plenty of bottom end but no tops) and it does need to be filled. Maybe in the two seater its not as important.

At the end of the day though it all comes down to personal preference. Your the one driving it so you want to be the one enjoying it.

Oh and also remember that if you go too loud the cops will issue with a "Driving a vehicle in a way that creates excessive noise" fine which is $200+ fine and I think 1 or 2 points (in QLD anyway). I'll let you all know how i go when I fight the ticket in court - considering i was driving a stock as a rock nissan stagea with no stereo and it was auto in an Industrial area at 9am on a weekday!!!

You can mount the tweeters in the air vents for a stealth install.

Can I say I think you have all missed the crutial point

Tokyo Geoff has said he wants good sound without amps. This I would say getting good speakers and not using an amp is pointless. Speakers always sound 100 times better when amped to their appropriate wattage. Otherwise you spending money on good speakers without getting the full potential from them. In fact you'll notice distortion where amped speakers would be compfortably numb, I mean hum.

    I agree

You definantly need an amp if you want to fully appreciate your music (and your investment in good speakers!)

It is possible to get a head unit that runs slighlty more power than the usual ones. If he doesnt want an amp then you can get reasonable packages that will work fine. But it does depend on how much noise the zed makes, at higher revs i don't think i would hear my system without an amp

As far as head units go they usually only put out

around 15-20RMS. Good splits are 50RMS and up, unless there is some new head unit around but im sure it would be more expencive than getting an amp. For $1000 I got a realy good sounding Alpine system all amped.
