    Hi
    I have a battery that's only 8 months old and last night when I got to my car it was dead, so I jump started it, and it was fine & now it's dead again this morning :( racv man told me something is draining all the power from it... So I think I need an auto elec ... Only problem is as soon as the car is off I can't start it again, I've got no other cars at home, I'm supposed to be moving house this weekend, And there's no food in the house and I'm soooo huuunnngrry ... Can anyone recommend anyone I can take it to now? I'm in eastern suburbs in melbourne

    last time I had a problem like this with a car, I hooked up a multimeter in series on the positive battery terminal and switched it to amps. if you see current drain you know you have a problem. Then go and remove all your fuses and put them back in one at a time while observing the multimeter for current drain. This will help you identify the circuit that is causing the problem and go from there.

    in my case the glove box light wasnt turning off when I closed it. Was impossible to know it was on, but using the above process I was able to find it and fix the switch.

    Unfortunately I don't own a multimeter so I've disconnected the battery to stop it draining any further, when I need to drive it I'll get one of my neighbours cars to jump start it ... I'll grab myself a multimeter next week and try what you said

    most common reason is your immobiliser.
    i would start there then follow what hyper said

    if ur battery only 8 months old then should be under warrenty, get it checked and replaced. Same thing happen to me last month RAC came out twice and finally they found that battery was faulty and wasn't holding the charge so they replace it with a new one.
    Now all good

    I tried to take a battery back under warranty (went flat after 7 months, no left on head lights, etc ) and they just blammed the car. I was hoping for a replacement, they did at least recharge it for free and it has been OK since.

    Check battery terminals for cleanliness and tightness. Otherwise as Hyper suggested, check if you have a current draw. A multimeter costs ~ $10 from supercheap.

    Most common in order of likeliness are:

    * Interior light not switching off
    * Glove box
    * Stereo (or any recently installed electrical item)
    * Immobiliser
    * Power seat buttons jammed on
