was a 97 na manual, neat interior, everything was looking good until we popped the hood. Along the back edge of the engine bay and down the top left edge there was evidence of welding, being fairly messy we assumed it was non-factory. Now i can't really work out what this would be from? If it had been a collision, there was no sign of repair work on the opposite side or front of the car, but the welding suggested something pretty major. The dealer eek: ) said he knew nothing about the history of the car as it was just a fresh import rolleyes: ). We didn't get a chance to test drive it as my friend and i were in a rush and just went over for a cursory look over at several cars within the area, and atm its been placed in the remote possibility basket. Anyways, my question is, should i discount the car based of its lack of history and what appears to be major work done? Or are these things common amongst the zeds floating around these days? (of the other two we saw, one was a complete dog, very obvious and very poorly/hasty made repairs all over the body, the other whilst better condition, was definately not worth the asking price) help a zed newbie
personally I wouldn't touch it.. I've met many people on this forum in the offline world and I don't think i've met anyone with anything that severe, infact I can't remember seeing an engine bay with welds and such. My opinion, don't buy it from a dealership or an importers yard. Not because of quality issues, but because of the prices
strange, indeed, momma .. one to give a miss methinks ... .. a joining of two half cuts, perhaps ...???
wouldnt touch it!!! looked around a bit more there are plenty of great zed's for sale (there are some on this site too check the zeds for sale section) dont go for the first one you see especially if what you say about the welding is as bad as it sounds, probaably was in a massive front on crash thats why there was no repair to the sides. Look around, take your time and find a zed that will treat you right and you will love it :zlove:
Don't risk it and buy one out of desperation you will hate yourself for it. Forget this one and keep looking. The right one IS out there waiting for you. DONT COMPROMISE just because you cant find any good ones.. Come to Qld and buy MikeZ's beautiful TT manual (See his post in for sale). THIS is a good car with known history...
