Hey guys so im thinking of doing a sleeper Turbo conversion to my standard NA engine. Just got a couple of questions... 1. Is anyone running a sleeper with a decent amount of boost, if so how did it go, does it run and operate good? 2. What kinda price am i looking at for this? 3. Is it possible to tweak a zeds computer to begin the actual turbo boosting from about 5 thousand Rpm n higher? /discuss very curious on this topic but dont know much about single turbos and sleepers.
I wonder how a Z would ever be a sleeper. That being said boost timing has more to do with your turbo selection than the ecm. (I do however realise that timing and fueling and all sorts of other items that are controlled by the ECM can effect your boost curve.) If you want maybe a very sensitve wastegate may give you what you want as well. Personally if I dont want my boost to come on I just go light on my right foot.
Soooooo, what makes turbo-ing a NA a sleeper? A LS7 in a volvo wagon is a sleeper. If you get one of Chris's kits it will be $4k in parts plug fitting. But then you will need a tune, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, etc, etc. Get the turbo boost from 5K+? WTF for?? Suitably big turbo/s will do it, or you could pull a heap of timing out and you might get to it to run crap enough it won't boost well until then. Seriously, if you are asking questions like this buy a TT, or do a TT conversion and enjoy it.
Keep in mind i am a P plater lol, hence why i want it to kick in a higher RPM so i can still cruise it bellow 5k and control when the Boost kicks in. This is a very sad P plater who doesnt want to wait almost 3 more years to drive a turbo. A sleeper allows me to be responsible with it.
That's not what sleeper means , And what your asking all contradict one or another . Keep the NA and do some tasteful look mods and handling most so you have a good platform to turbo properly
you wont be driving long enough to enjoy it. you gotta wait for those turbos. just get an NA or a shitbox until your ready.
If you are just cruising then keep the right foot feather weight and you will not have it boosting I can go to 5000 rpm with out boosting (or without boosting much I suppose). but the nature of these cars is that they look fast, wether NA or TT, if you want something fast that does not attract unwanted attention then get a volvo estate and go crazy. but you are on your P's if you run into trouble its on your head and any costs involved are yours alone. remember that, Save your pennies and get something killer for later.
Yes he sure has written off one zed in style!!! Lol Jarryd, there are a few P platers i know that are/will be running a TT in their zed while they are on their P's...its been done & can be done. But in the area we live in & the way you drive (LOL) you will definitely get busted sooner or later. Going single turbo instead of the standard TT setup is not worth what your going for. If you keen on doing it for the extra power...buy a TT motor & get black pipes $ & use black grill at the front bar to hide the intercooler & try not to use coloured pipes in the engine bay & hope you dont get checked under the bonnet by the cops. Thats what Aidan had done to his old zed... Jarryd you do need to realise...if you have driven your NA zed & ended up totalling the crap out of it...you do realise more power from going TT or even single turbo isnt the right way to go? Lol Abraham
A hilux with a monster TT engine is a sleeper lol & its got a very nice sound to it too...would love to buy it but its never going to be for sale lol Abraham
Why do all P plater's think they deserve to drive a high powered car sooner than everyone else? Chances are a TT Zed is too much for you to handle.
Worst advice ever. Convinving him to buy and drive a TT and hide the pipes? Okay, an uninsured driver....an UNLICENCED driver..... a recipe for disaster ps. if you kill someone .... i hope you dont fall for the ole' pick up the soap trick
This, if he hits and hurts someone badly, his CTP will not cover the accident and neither will his car insurance. Not legally licensed to drive the car and it won't be covered in the event of an accident, the company will more than happily take your money but will never cover you. Wait the few years till you get your fulls.
Keshzx is either trolling, or not very bright. Get plenty of experience normal driving for a few years. As the guys here have said, null insurance, null license = massive fines or jail term. Build a monster HP car, trailer it to a certified race track or drag strip, and got nutz there. Stay the hell off the public streets.
I drove a TT zed for probably 70% of my P plate life. Handled it quite well i'd say, my zed is still in 1 piece 3 years on, AND i'm a girl. All legal here in WA though.
