Yep this is where it gets tricky. Sadly the majority of Z31s are automatic, I have no idea why this is. A manual cali is so incredibly rare, my 89T is manual and I only know of a few other original manuals. There are a few transplants getting around, even they're rare now. If you find one grab it or someone else will I garuntee it! lol Even in the U.S manual series II turbos were quite rare. If you do find an automatic, you want to see if it's been rebuilt at some stage. If it hasn't, it's going to need it sooner or later as 20 year old automatics dont tend to be in that great of condition. A shift kit or some other kind of trans modification is the best option for beefing up an automatic car...

I wont lie, it's not the greatest on fuel but that also depends on how you drive! lol You can get 550km or so out of a tank with moderate to normal driving. Wind the boost up though with a few modifications and really get on it and you can see as little as 350-400km! :p

You'll have the same problme with the Z32's as well. I've seen as bad as 280k's per tank in my NA when I really get up it

hey guys thanks for the help so far! I got a call from a good mate of mine a few days ago saying he saw a Z31 on the side of the road in our area with a for sale sign and he believed it was a Cali, i showed him a pic of 2 Z31's and he identified the cali pic as similar to the car he saw, so last night i chased around looking for it and found it on the side of the road. Looks pretty neat, fresh paint, targa top, aftermarket rims & 2+2 and badgeless. For sale sign on the window stating it was a 1988 300ZX. Stopped to have a look and noticed the NSW number plate was tightly squeezed in the recess, indicating to me it may be a JDM spec car. Did the walk around it and noticed it had a bonnet scoop offset to the left, 180kmh speedo, no leather, and manual! remembering my pics of Z31 calis only 200ZR's had the bonnet scoop could this be a 200ZR? if so would it be worth buying? I'll try and get a day day pic as i saw it 11 at night.

The gtst r33 was not stock then vizard, or the driver of the z32 wasnt a good one....

as for the rear seats, for an average bloke whos out with mates for less than an hr or so trips the zed isnt that bad, trust me their concentration would be more on the car than where they are.....yes not as roomy as a r33 but has more room than supra for sure...

GTS-t's are not FAST. Only the GTR's are fast. I've ripped many GTS-t's in safety boost.

200ZRs with the RB20 are significantly slower stock vs stock than 300ZX's with the VG30ET, however the RB26DETT practically falls in which is the most common swap done with 200ZRs. Not exactly unique though, it'll just be like any other Skyline out there then but aftermarket support is awesome if that's something that appeals to you. There's alot of potential in those little 2.0L's though and like the VG30ET they respond VERY well to basic modifications.

Like most Series II Z31s, they're incredibly rare now days and you wont be disapointed. I have dibs on my mates 2 seater manual 200ZR when he sells it just to add to the collection! ;) She looks real clean mate, definately pick it up! Your new home will still be R31 Skyline forums though, lots of knowledgable guys with the older Skylines and alot less hair dressers.

Great car, real head turners mate. You'll love it! :)

The car i made an offer on is an aus delivered californian auto. the one i have pictured is a 200ZR 2+2 parked near my place with a for sale sign, I made contact with the owner, hes sure its a 300ZX with a later model RB20 fitted  from what i saw when i took the pics its got an FMIC and hes after $8000 for it.

meh gtst's aint slow!!! stop generalising

i know many rb25dets which go like rockets, even rb20'd skylines

my best mates rebuilt rb20 driven r32 pushes 115mph+ down quarter very bad traction see's him get low 13's but good for alot better times with proper rubber, he has 225's on std s14/r33 rims called "clear" but on the street, nothing ever touches his car the 2nd/3rd gear acceleration is nuts, with only 250/260rwkw but some how makes over 750nM of toque, the car is alot quiker then alot of other cars ive been in with more power, off a running start it absolutely demolished another friends r32 gtr with just over 300awkw, weird ey

He doesn't know shit from shoe polish, that's a 200ZR. The flared guards and hood scoop for the top mount intercooler (which sucks) that the RB20 comes with is a dead give away. There is no way someone swapped that in there and then did all the body modifications to go with it! lol It's literally impossible. He doesn't know what he has, common tale. But $8,000 is about the right money for a good condition 200ZR...

Sadly the majority of Australian delivered Z31's are automatic, to the point where you cant let it put you off because manuals are so bullshitly rare so much so it's the rarest 300ZX you can buy, no joke. There were 200 Australian delivered S2 Z31s, the majority being automatic and less than 1/4 of them were manual or even less! I flew to Sydney and drove back for my '89 manual (rarer again because it's an '89) and I've only ever seen two others for sale in 4 years. So, so rare! You can get a shift kit for the auto to make it at least semi fun to drive so you dont fall asleep. A friend of mine got his automatic tricked out and that thing hammers, and you can also do cheat launches (hold brake/build rpms) and beat even the most seasoned drivers off the line lol

The manual conversion isn't that difficult though, that is if you can find one to throw in of course! :(

Yeah the guys English was pretty poor, from my quick roadside inspection, its got a cloth interior 2+2, targa top and manual, paint looks fresh FMIC fitted, but the major put off is the monster tacho on the dash. Its got rego, I told him i'll go and have a look when my car sells. Also been offered a black 200ZR that needs a bit of work for $3500. im not fussed about the aussie delivered being auto, i just want a californian body Z, this one is in such good condition, it jsut had the auto rebuilt, I'd like to turn it into a concourse car

"Needs a bit of work" is code for "It's totally fukt!" You've got to becareful buying import cars that are in rough shape, they can turn into money pits fast.

If the auto has just been rebuilt you're golden, 2k worth right there.

Okay i have driven an R32 and R33 GTS-t. The R32 was not quicker than my Z the R33 was on par with it (had GT35/40 turbo only 14psi etc.)

The Z had a more tighter cabin (more of a sports car feel) the R33 felt like my old VS Clubby very spacious. The R32 had a nice tight cabin too but i hate the interior its very ugly.
