Good day every one. I want to do a single turbocharge conversion to a Z32 VG30dett. The car has very tight and hard to work on engine bay. Has any one done one before? and if so what needs doing? Thanks in advance.

I might have to do this

I might have to do this to make a good job of the inline turbo-supercharger. Not sure if that 'little' project will go ahead or not yet, but there is a hell of a lot of work involved - custom everything just to have the one intake, then if you upgrade the turbos, all the internal work too.

why bother it's already got 2, and you would have to mount it on top of the plenum so it would be sticking way out the top of the bonnet

Buy a Z31 or a Leopard, Nissan have already done it for you:cool:

I doubt you would have to run it on top of the plenum,
you could run it off one cylinder bank.
Saab used to do it with their earlier V6 9.3s (could of been 9.5s can't remember)

and i think they do it now with their new v6...which is australian made.
    stupid aussies...hate to be one....
    :) :)

Question is why would you want to run a single?

Oh and as discussing with Doug on Sunday, do the TTZ's run different sizes turbos L and R so that their is less drag? or should i pull myself with my other hand?

That VG30 engine is very good for single turbochage due to its size and capacity of making power. Plus the stock turbos on them are quite weak and old. I think I won't worry too much about the internals but more about where to fit the turbo and run the exhaust pipe. The turbo's going to be a T4/T3 sized turbo with .50 front and .63 rear.

Pull yourself with your other hand mate:D

Manual turbos are different than autos I believe to help with the auto being slower.

As for the Saab, it was on the 9000 V6 3.0 which is a transverse engine making a single turbo much easier than an inline engine.

A lot depends on why you want to do a single turbo conversion. On inline 6 cylinder engines they're often done to simplify the set up. On a V6, a single turbo complicates the set up.

If you want a single because it would be a "cheaper upgrade, how good are you at fabricating?

A single turbo conversion on Z32 is very uncommon so it will have to be a totally custom job. If you're doing it all your self and are good at fabricating then it might be worth while. You'd probably have to relocate the battery and out the turbo where the battery was.

If you're paying someone else to do the work, then it should be much cheaper to upgrade the twins.

If you are going 1 turbo, don't get the z31 motor

The VG30et ran 1 cam per bank of cylinders and made less power than the z32 N/A (two cams per bank).

As suggested above, get the single turbo, twin cam motor (VG30DET).

Or go the v8 conversions as per HybridZ

But wear did they put the turbo?
I recon a good place for it would be in front of the motor behind the radiator you wouldn?t have to worry about the radiator cooking the turbo as it was run hotter anyway and if you put in front you can run both banks (all 6 cylinders) but it would require moving a lot of stuff around

You run a T3/T4 turbo and it will be powerless as a single, run twin Garrett GT2876rs turbos or even GT3071r turbos and you will be pushing 900hp capable turbos compared to around 550 odd realistically from a single T3/T4 variant and a lot more hassle for piping etc but hey if you want to be different by all means do it.

If the said motor is going into a 300 and your chasing power why not try a rb25/26 with big single might be easier to work with?? iv seen pics of it done. Either way goodluck sounds like alot of fun....

    That is all...

But if you do pull it off and your bank account is still in tact... then all the power to you!.

Yes if you have that sort of money stick a supercharged 1UZFE in it, much cooler and more power, stupid strong bottom end like the 2J's but with quad cam 8 cylinder goodness!

The only feasible way would be to have the turbo where the battery is currently or behind the engine near the gearbox. Everything will have to be purely custom built and the turbo is going to end up being (IMO) too far away, and your manifolds too long, in the end increasing your lag substancially. I honestly can't see such a setup making the engine bay any easier to work on.

    Sensible rule off thumb...2 banks = 2 turbo's.

Isn't Hypergear the dude selling those cheap T28 turbo's? Maybe he wants to know if it's feasible doing this so he can develop a kit for a sinlge conversion with his turbo's.
