Once again.....this might be a topic that's been done to death but I'll ask anyway..........just for a fresh collection of opinions at least ! What's the best option for a TT Zed...........Single Pod or Dual Pods? Going with the line about keeping the two SMICs due to the nature of the turbo set up does the type of Pod Filter you use have any effect? All opinions gladly accepted! Anyway....while you think about your answer......have a look at a nice 97 convertible........STEF....time for an upgrade !!!
you'll find that the single pod is ample for upto 500hp.. it's really only with larger turbos and a mafless tune that a twin pod setup can come into it's own, testing has shown no real gain over single on stock turbo's
Im actually in the process of trying to fab up some new compressor inlet pipes for Dual Pod setup under each headlight. Would be keen on some ideas
There's a guy in Qld. I think Stu.. Running such a set-up on his 300ZX. I was reading the write up last night in HPI issue 58......something about the "Quickest Zed in Australia" Car has run a 10.84 quarter at Willowbank on street tyres! Making 391 RWkW ! Guys name is Colin Brodie from B & R Motorsport.
Certainly not the quickest in Australia. Uas has that title I believe. 10.79. And I meant 400whp* Sounds good. I can't really see a way to do it besides the path that the stock one takes. What size are you getting them done in? And what kind of couplers are you thinking of using?
Quickest 300ZX in the USA....... Escort Drag Racing Service 300ZX imported from Japan. Ran 7.45 for the quarter back in 2004. Car runs 6 1000cc injectors, Motec engine management, 8.3 : 1 comp and makes 1000HP at the flywheel. Can I have this one please !!!!
i think its pretty pointless unles you start running big numbers and big boost, like if you wanna go 400+rwhp then dual is better, but realistically if your gonna have stock (ish) boost levels theres not much point
Tube frame doesn't hurt either!!! Hey wildstyle do you reckon an engineer would sign off on that??? Haha
the 10 second n/a z in japan has trumpets mounted horizontaly, close to what your asking.. was posted in the n/a mods thread i *THINK*
I'll elaborate on where I'm coming from.... From previous threads and posts of mine you will se I really want to leave that frontal area ahead of the radiator as free of obstruction as possible. Re-locating the pods to under the lights would be a good idea in that case. Currently I run a single HKS Pod but apart from the intake noise......haven't felt any increase in power. I have looked at dual pods and might try some after I sort out my HKS SMIC purchase......I'll offer those if the price is right....just to compare the two.
Oh yes....I can give you the name too! Only problem.....you have to get a visitors pass to a correctional facility in order to get him to sign the paperwork!!!
heh on "street tyres" i love how people say that... but the definition is in the eye of the beholder you know, street tyres could be classed as semi slicks that are road legal. hardly road tyres in my opinion though. remember with pods the lower you mount them the dirtyer they get too, doesnt sound like much of an issue but can be a bitch constantly cleaning them. i like the idea of a FMIC with the pods in the place of the stock SMIC's. alot of people lean towards dual pods for the bling look with the doolz setup. personally i dont see the point for the price they cost! id rathe single or custom setup as Stu is planning.
B&R B&R was bought out by some other guys but I heard on the great vine that Colin is workin up at the mines in NQLD comes back every couple of months and has his car in a shed in Oxley. He's a real nice guy and his car was pretty insane but never finished off and tuned properly. The rods were made out of titanium - you know how much that would frigin cost???????? I think it was like $8k or something stupid. Hopefully he'll finish it one day and be another quick zed to compete against. That run didn't count either cause it wasn't using legal tyres and ran before JP. Nate
