Hi guys, Upon installing a new set of rims, the tyre-guy noticed play on front L/R side. He suggested that I consider taking the car to a mechanic to look at the condition of the steering rack. P/S fluid level doesn't appear to be declining rapidly, but I'm not sure of any leaks as I haven't had the car up on hoists. I figured I may as well take it to a reputable shop to handle it for me. Worst case scenario would see my steering rack replaced (reconditioned?) and as this is apparently a rather big job, I'd like to avoid getting ripped off. Have any of you Sydney-siders had similar work done and was generally happy with the results? Can you recommend any business names?
Take it to a suspension place. Sounds like control arm or tension rod bushings rather than play in the actual rack. Anyhow, a suspension specialist like pedders or midas will be able to sort you out pretty quick.
Con Rouggos at Pedders is extremely good with Z32/Skylines(also reasonable pricing). He's been looking after my car for 9 years. Pedders Granville James Ruse Drive 9897 2122
