I'm not a suspension tech nor have I ever really had anything to do with car suspension, so I can only give an opinion on what I've researched over the last 9 months. Thats how long it took for me to make the final decision on what to install, all the while researching opinions from both laymen and experts. Something like this can make or break a ride.

If you're looking for shocks and springs the in-house experts(?) on this forum such as Chrispy, Benny C and Tektrader back the KYB Excel G's running Eibach springs, and do so with much gusto. This is probably the best budget set-up. Perhaps drop a PM to Tektrader, I recall him knowing the price range through Bursons. *Sorry if dropping your names upsets you fellers.*

Coilovers; you already know this is the more expensive route. From what I can garner from your post something like Tein is out, purely from cost. A lot of research(from American forums too) brought to light the following details. Brands such as Buddy Club Racing, AMS and Powertrix will do nearly as well as the Teins. Tein is Japanese manufactured and as we all know they have 0% compromise with quality. The other brands I mentioned are made in Taiwan, Korea and China respectively(I think?). The quality is still there in those 3 other brands because they are manufactured to US specifications for the US market, using specified componentry. Many people vouch that they cannot tell the difference in ride between upper models like Tein and these budget models, only suspension guru's and real tech-heads who get off on sh!t like that can.

The old addage "you get what you pay for" rules supreme pretty much anywhere, and for the extra $300(approx) you'd be far better off with a set of coilovers from one of the 3 brands of coilovers mentioned above than the units you have in your post. There is most likely a reason those cheapies do not have a brand name associated with them, because they are cheap and nasty and cannot be endorsed by anyone with a conscience. There is no mention of what they are even made of? They could be alluminium? Whereas with the others you can be assured that the components are made of monotube forged steel strut bodies and other high quality materials.

Like I said, it took me 9 months of reading up/researching a lot of forums and websites before I finally decided on a set of Powertrix coilovers. I am no expert on the matter though and would greatly prefer if someone with more knowledge would either back me up or slap me down. I do stand by my research though.

There is no Australian distributor for Powertrix, you have to order direct through the U.S. You will probably avoid this option though because shipping is an additional $340! That was bearable when the Powertrix Group Buy was in effect, not so much now.:

All the research in the world couldn't find me an overall bad review on them. There are those who pick up on small issues about them(remember, these are professional suspension techs and the like who write the reviews), but it seems that in the budget category they hold their own. There are lots of reviews about them, just google away.

I'll finish with my soon-to-be-notorious disclaimer: I am no suspension head, I just do a lot of research before I commit. So anything I write is open to interpretation and is completely my own opinion, for which I can be corrected by those who know better.
