Seven-Up ... Seven plus years of zed ownership

Inspired by RedZedMikey posting about RZ1 life and her departure I propose a thread on the life of your zed, and DreamZed plans to sell their zed.

    GROUND RULES
I would like to lay down some ground rules though... you must have owned this SINGLE ZED FOR SEVEN PLUS YEARS... Not owned multiple zeds over seven plus years.

The reason for the 7 years line is like the seven-up tv series. After owning the same zed for 7+ years it is now part of the family rather than a passing phase in ones life, and hence should make some interesting reading about her evolution and maybe even passing.

    OUTLINE
    • Date of original purchase
    • Original purchase price
    • Earliest picture of the car in your ownership.
    • Your first cruise
    • A diary of the subsequent evolution of your car over the years with associated pictures.

    CONCLUSION

please abide by the seven years starting limit as it should make an interesting chronicle of this forum as many of the older forum members have departed and / or now departing.

    Happy zedding :zlove:

Very enjoyable read steven, lots of history documented here. I used to live in sydney and when you were rifling through cruise locations i got a bit of nostalgia.

so well done, and congratZ on a very clean and respectable zed.

    matt.

I paid for my girl on the 28/5/2004 so I guess I've got about 9 months to get the story together. Look forward to some interesting reading in the meantime. Nice start Steven.

    sweet car and great story

I have to wait until December for my 7 years. And to be honest I can't wait to write it up. I am sure most of you will laugh pretty hard at my story.

Same as min on the NA. Are yours a pearl white steven? I knew they were AVS 25th anniversary wheels, but thought they were painted as a mod.

Stillen rear wing and side-skirts as used on the 25th Anni

Stillen rear wing and side-skirts as used on the 25th Anni via ConceptZ ... dam fast delivery.
The wheels are AVS rims as used on the 25th.

In passing I note on CarPoint there is a red 25th anniversary without engine for sale for $5K, if it had the original wheels then it would be worth it just for the spare parts of the original rear wing, rear bar, front-chin ... but alas it ain't.

Go ahead write it ... seems no one else is

Go ahead write it ... seems no one else is ... what I was hoping to see is other long term several year stories and not the few year love affair. I think I read it somewhere that marriages get into trouble after about seven years.

    Story of my Zed

Purchased in May 1999 for $29,000. Sounds expensive now but a great price then as most were around $40k a year earlier. 80,000 km on the clock.

    Earliest Photo

On the banks of the Barwon River in Geelong where I lived then.

First cruise was with the Melbourne guys in 2002 soon after I discovered this forum. It was the one Mikey posted pics of where it snowed.

The first cruise I have pictures of is this one soon after moving to Brisbane in 2003

Soon after moving to Brisbane I entered my first track day at Queensland Raceway. I was soon hooked and competing regularly. Splashed out on new wheels, semi slicks and big brakes. Also had a HITEC ECU fitted and boosted to 18psi shortly before leaving Victoria in 2002.

Here are some pics from a supersprint in July 2004.

    Part 2

Few more random track days in 2004

In the Pits with the other Regulars, Fleet, AZA and Trayns.

Soon after this I again moved for work reasons, this time to Sydney.
Just in time for the 2005 Nationals at Goulburn.

Waiting next to WYKKED at scrutioneering, Fleet in the background.

Next up was to change the front bar which I had never liked. Went the full 2000k spec with Bar, Xenons and rear lights.

And reupholstered the interior in Macrosuede.

Also spent quite a few nights at the drags, culminating in a best of 12.35 so far.

Plenum pull, 100k service and PCV bypass.

Made the trek to Phillip Island with the NSW crew for the Nationals in 2007.

Our sharehouse at the Nationals, staying with Top Blokes Wizard, Fleet and Ports.

Still find this one funny, Fleet refueling his car on the side of the road after running out of fuel on the way to the servo!

Great event but after 20+ previous track days I had my first problem which meant I only completed 5 laps. Turned out to be only minor, burnt the tip off a spark plug causing it to run on 5 cylinders. I decided I had to go back and do better than my 2min 6 seconds. Did so 5 months later driving 1000km back to PI, running a 1.57 sec lap then driving the 1000km home all in 3 days.

Back home, and a few of the track day trophies.

    Next, new B & B 3inch exhaust.

And my recent rebuild of the rear end.

So after 11 years of ownership and 40 to 50 track day/drag events on the original motor, the zed is still going strong.

Its been a great 11 years so far and met lots of fantastic people along the way.

    Keep on Zedding....

I love the evolution of this car

I love the evolution of this car, it actually improved with age. :zlove:
But does it ever make you wonder what it will look like and where will it be in another 10 years?
