AUS Saw kit!

This is a very rare opportunity for those with an Auto to experience the thrill of shifting through 5 gears (5th being your torque lock-up) at lightening fast speeds.

What am I on about? Well some dont know about such a product... It's know as a Shift at Will kit AKA SAW kit. This kit was engineered solely for our Z32 and nothing else. Made by ESS Racing, a subsidiary of Engineering Solutions Sweden, you gain full control of your auto, giving you (in my opinion and from those whom have had the opportunity to try the SAW kit) a better driving experience than a manual Z. Both hands on the wheel sweeping through twisties grabbing gears in a blink of an eye.....nothing beats it.

The SAW unit completely replaces your ACTU and features three modes. Two auto modes, and one manual mode.

The two auto modes are comfort and sport. Whilst in auto mode, you can switch between two shift maps customisable by you. One which you map to shift earlier and down shift later and one which perhaps shifts later and down shifts earlier, its totally up to you. You have the ability to map out the auto mode to suit your style of driving. It's graphed out by speed and throttle position. It gets a bit tricky playong around with this so ill be available to assist anyone if they wish to change the maps from how I set it up.

Manual mode is pretty self explanatory. By holding both paddles in for 2-3 secs you enter Manual mode which seems like the Z puts a different suit on...a totally different beast from what you are used to! Shift control all the way from 1st to 5th and back down with the ability to engine brake through all except 2nd-1st obviously. Manual mode is still slightly customisable. You can play around with the line pressure to give harder, sharper and faster shifts. Keep in mind though, the more you bump this up the more stress is placed on the Auto. To be honest I never touched the line pressure that was pre-programmed into the unit. It's still much higher than the factory line pressure. The Auto seems happy to handle this amount. Remember the Auto can actually handle higher line pressures from factory, it's dialled back to give a smoother drive is all.

So what do you need to qualify to run the SAW kit? You need a non-airbag OEM steering wheel, a fairly good condition Auto, and an external (large) trans oil cooler. Fittment requires a bit of wiring...if the buyer is in VIC I'm willing to help out with installation. If an interstater buys this then I will try and help as much as I can through other means. The instructions are downloadable as a PDF from their website which is pretty clear and straight forward anyway.

So I can't actually believe I'm selling this. But after some thinking about it, I figured my Z isn't performance in any way or form, I just havent built it that way. I've always been one to harp on about OEM and here I am with a SAW kit my Z is a cruiser and that's what I like to do with it. It's better off in a TT or even lighten up the feel of an NA and give someone who is after the performance side of a Z the thrill of this unique upgrade. This does not mean I'm willing to let it go for nothing however, it's just too rare....and I secretly do still love it

I am very keen to see these in operation and haven't been able to find a vid myself

 

I do have a fairly interested party at the moment so we shall what comes out of that... But failing that...on Monday ill do a quick vid for you
