I said i'd fix up my car for the next buyer and i'll stick to that :) So, my question is, what are my options for fixing a rusty battery tray? As in the actual metal part below the plastic insert. I think I read of somebody pop riveting in a new one after cutting out the old (i don't own a welder). Speaking of welding, would a mechanic weld in a new one or is this considered too risky being close to fuel lines?
I can buy a new one from Coz but i highly, HIGHLY doubt this will suit a RHD zed http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=2376&Car_Type=NIS300&UID=2009051003345560.240.162.187

It was probably my cheapo method. Didn't win over alot of members as i didn't remove any of the rust underneath the tray. In actually fact the original tray was spot welded in place kinda like pot riveting it place.

heres the thread i posted. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265311&highlight=battery+tray

i got mine from a wrecked zed also. Unsure about the COZ one dont see why it wouldnt as the bay area should be identical i think.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

LHD (US) Z32 has the battery mounted on the opposite side, where the brake booster is on our cars. As the item is not symmetrical about its centreline in any dimension, you can't just flip it or rotate it 180 degrees and expect it to fit. Almost certainly to be a different stamping for an RHD car.

Thanks for that man. Yeah your method was the one i'd read before I think. Anything is better than what i've got now! :p Either way i'll make a good job of it one way or another. Did you have any problems spot welding it in place? Ie due to lack of space, fuel lines etc?
edit: yeah I gathered that mike, having another look at it. Bummer

I would rivet it in place, easier and safer with all that fuel related junk in that area. Grab an air powered riveter and shoot em in.

or i'll just use my INCREDIBLE MAN ARMS to punch the bastards in. If my little rivet gun fails I will use my head of MALICE.

But yes...i'll have to wait til i've got another battery try waiting and sitting in my hands to see what mounting options i've got I guess. Just curious to see what others have done.

Yes, definately will not fit. I tried to get a RHD version through ttzed a while back. You cannot buy the RHD version any more :( It's NLA - No Longer Available from Nissan.

Grr and I would have thought it to be a popular item, particularly as these cars age..... guess not enough money in it for them

    AndyMac Better than you

Dealers will only stock parts for 10 years after the last model sold, which was 1996 for the RHD version, so no more specific RHD parts since 2006. and only 1 more year left till any new zed specific parts will be available from nissan direct.

Did you try Nissan japan? Im sure you have but just asking. I was told by Simon from TTZ when i spoke to him that Japan don't follow the 10 year spare parts rule. They can choose whenever they like to discontinue a certain part regardless of how long the car finished production. Whether this is true or not i don't know. Just thought id throw it out there see if anyone else can enlighten me.

I bought one from a wreck, had it sandblasted, and the body guys sprayed and installed it and repaired the surrounding areas.
