i was on the way to work and the gear stick felt like it snapped when i changed gears... turns out the rubber that holds the shifter up on the metal plate broke. I still drove to work but it felt like i was driving with a walking stick as I'd always have to lift the stick each time to change gears:p. I was thinking about a really strong glue till i get it replaced as i need to go to city and paint balling tomorrow, got any ideas anyone?

Strong glue won't hold that up.

I assume you're talking about the upper dust boot. If so, then glue ain't gonna hold that in.

For a temporary fix, go for some gaffer tape. Cut it into strips and follow the contours of the dust boot when attaching it back together. Brace it with something solid like a few shortened paddle pop sticks stacked together or strips of metal / hard plastic.

With the shift control all dismantled, now is the time to go for that MOMO short shifter that you've always wanted too. Always look on the bright side!

No i believe he is talking about the Nissan Rubber shift mount. A small bit of rubber that attaches to the metal plate that the gear stick screws into, not a terrible thing but is a bit pain. being 20yr old in some cases the rubber is a bit weak and applied with a tiny bit of force (going into 2nd usually) breaks it.

Search in TECH mate, there is a guide in there how to use a small metal plate to fix the issue unless you want to source a new plate,

    good luck, Procky Z :)

I repaired mine in the same way 10 years ago. It has never caused a problem since then(and it is currently fitted with a Short Shifter).
    It's a very successful, permanent fix.:br:

you can buy that part cheap from coz i broke mine not long ago as well.

I glued the old one with locktight and it looked like it would hold up ok in the short term, but never tried it out because I got new one in time.

I know you can buy a replacement part reasonably cheaply, but that doesn't help when you're stuck at the side of the road(and a long way from home). That's when "improvisation" comes into it's own(and if that "fix" is still going after 9 years, then it's well worth considering IMHO).:zlove::br:

I had to drive for over 300ks like this... god that was annoying. Tried super gluing like i mentioned and it broke off after 10mins:p

I'll see if coz stock them or get a metal plate welded.
