Just got a letter from the RTA, they say that they are conducting a check on the engineer that did the import certificate on my Z, the car is a 89 fairlady TT. The car was imported in 2004.
I spoke with the guy at the RTA and he said that they would be checking the car for Australian compliance, for instance.... side impact compliance.
Does anyone know if the 89 z32 has any issues as far as aussi compliance is concerned, I have installed BOVs and a pod filter where the old air box was, apart from that the car is standard exept for 310 rwkw lol

What do you mean by issues?

There should be side intrusion bars in the doors (as part of complicance). You can see them if you take the door trims off.

Other than that, there's a bunch of other stuff, like changing Japanese tyres for Australian ones (i'm sure you would have by now anyway), removing flare (located in passenger footwell on the side) relocating seatbelts to the pillar from the door (if applicable, and not always done), I think there are some more things but i'm pretty sure i listed the bulk of it. Small things like brake fluid get changed also usually.

was it complianced as a 15year old import?

if it's a 2+2 check for new ADR approved seatbelts. Pull up the seat bottom and there should be tags on both seat belts with a ADR numbers and the date of manufacture.

Hmm the seat belts are still on the door, by issues I mean anything that should have been changed prior to Aus registration

Hmm I'm not sure the seatbelts relocation is a big thing, my 2 seater also them on the door, as does my gf's 2 seater. I think you'll be alright mate, as the really major thing is side intrusion bars (like I said you can check this by removing either door trim).

Also, one of your suspension towers should have an "extended vin" stamped into it, that is, a Japanese vin with the Aussie prefix "6U9" or so (could also be on a plate somewhere in the engine bay). I'm not sure how thorough the inspection is, I'd treat it like a normal roadworthy, so just try to have all the little things taken care of, like tyre placard on the door sill for instance.

ok, thanks mate, I guess I just have to look at the BOVs and the air pod, although the pod is located in the old air box space behind the front garnish, I might have to disconnect the BOVs though as they are not plumbed back... anyway I guess we will just have to see what happens... Its a pain in the ass, they only gave me 7 days notice and at 1.00 pm in the afternoon at the RTA, they must think people can just take time off work anytime, more to the point they don't give a ----

pod is legal if you get the leg that holds it firmly in place that connects to some thing else in that area to strengthen and remove the bounce of the loose pod

NSW pod not legal unless inclosed, they will check tyre sticker ( and it's the same as on their copy as posted by enginer)and thats whats fitted, intrusion bars , exhaust has cats(some cars from japan have them removed and still sail through under 15 year rule) , height adjustable suspenion not allowed ( if lowered but not adjustable then ok if not to low ) , rear seat belts fitted( only for 4 seater),cab operated boost controler not allowed( remove or hide any boost controller) , turbo timer not allowed ( car cann't run unattended ).
They will do a basic rego check ,tyres tread depth , oil leaks, rust , lights, things like seat belts and seat tears and anything aftermarket fitted ( steering wheel, rims, gaugs), spare tyre and jack, mud flaps .

    Hmmm

Pod filters are like the O2 Rush / hks pod filters etc ya? The ones that use an oil coated filling to filter the air? Apexi Power Air Intake ones are ok though arent they? Thought the reason behind this is cause of the probability to catch fire or something..... not that where a air filter on ours (where the stock airbox is) could really catch fire unless something severe happend before that

Had my imported 2+2 over the RTA in Tassie because it had been imported and rego's in another state (S.A) and Tassie RTA had to go over it again !

The seat belts on my doors were OK? I would imagine that this is a consistent RTA & ADR's thing.... But I guess looking up the ADR's is a better option.
Certainly side intrusion bars are an ABSOLUTE must have...

The RTA will let you read their ADR's book, however, they will not let you take it away. So you will need to find a compfy chair in their office and read through... ?

My understanding is no (but you might be lucky ) it's something to do with emisions and possiable hydrocarbon escape.
The worse that will happen is you will get a list off repairs to do .

I too have been involved with importing many cars under the 15year and depending where you go and how well you know the compliance shop , you can get away with a lot. You have to only look at the cars forsale in yards and it can be seen how slack they are ( i've seen track cars straight from japan regiested without returing to stock).
If there checking back so far , it shows how bad they may have been.

Since we are talking about NSW , vicroads don't matter in this discussion, as OP stated his letter came from the RTA i'd say it still running NSW roads :bash:
