I've been looking at my fan shroud plastic and its looking a bit old with a few coolant stains.

Anyone recommend a good product or process to restore the fan shroud plastic to new black freshness. I guess it will have to be a product that can put up with engine bay temperatures..

I do have meguiars dashboard foam and vinyl protect... Not sure if they are suitable for the task.. Read somewhere about baby oil.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    paint it....

take it out, clean it up. Spray it with 3 coats of plastic primer, then 2-3 coats of either Satin Black or Gloss black (ever you prefer).

The other option is Meguires Trim detailer. It sprays on and gives everything a nice shiny appearance. If you apply to much it will remain slightly damp and hence dust will stick to it.

Originally I was thinking of painting it but then I imagined paint peeling off as it ages... but didnt know about plastic primer... I'll check that out.

    My fan shroud....

has been painted for many years. The paint has never cracked, bubbled or peeled. Thats just using primer and vht black paint.

Ive seen youtube vids of people using heatguns to bring plastic back to black. Dont know how it will work on a heat shroud though.

this will sound really dumb,,but i use 200mills of tranny fliud mixed with 100mills of thinners,it will make the panel look awesome,,and its not oily after ,,i was given the idea 20yrs ago by a panel beater who used to do all the black plastic bars on cars back then

on trail bikes we heat up the plastics with a heat gun to almost melting to return to the original color . Would be worth trying on the fan shroud. As you heat you will see the plastic go glossy ( like new ). Just do a spot then work your way out but be careful near the thinner pieces like webs e.c.t
