Hey guys, I put in an apexi power fc pod filter on the weekend but I cant remove the bottom half of the cover from the stock airbox. I got the top cover off and the actual filter but according to the guide on here you simply unscrew two hidden screws to get the bottom half of the orginal intake cover off. I've found it's impossible to get to them properly no matter how many different tools we used. Te pod is in now, but the great chunk of plastic underneath it is surely restricting the airflow. Can anyone tell me how to get this off? Thanks.
Not impossibly, just extremely tedious. I used a 10mm (from memory) spanner and lots and lots of patience. I think some people have got good results with a hacksaw and less patience too.
Used that Yeah I used that guide for the whole thing, but it tells you that you need to unscrew them but doesn't give much detail as to how.
who cares how you do it. your never gonna use it again. get the hacksaw out, aswell as the hammer and chisel and maybe even the chainsaw.
might just do that. I was kinda trying to do it without ruining the original box. But considering how cheap pods are, I can't see it ever being used by anyone in the future...
hacksaw i vote for hacksaw, patience is the element key to perfection but in this instance u will never re-use the stock airbox so hack it!!!
that airbox was a bastard to remove. mainly because of 2 little bolts that u cant reach or get a grip on
what exaclty is a "apexi power fc pod filter" haha anyways. use a hammer and brake that sucker. there worthless anyways
A few of your contributions to similar threads have involved hammers. I have to say I entirely approve.
Yeah I used the stanley knife too.. I didn't want to break the airbox just incase someone with a TT needed to borrow it if they got defected for more than one intake mod (switching back to airbox from pod filter is easier than removing an intercooler to go back to stock smics). The trouble I had was getting to those nuts that held the airbox to that plastic splash guard, so I just cut the splash guard off the airbox (I managed to leave almost all of the splash guard in place) and then manoeuvred the airbox out.
You ran into the bolts on the splashguard too? They caught me somewhat by surprise as they were not mentioned in the tech article so I was half way through levering the bottom half of the airbox out before I found them. By that tile I had twisted the rubber guard enough that they were at a pretty easy angle to undo and the rubber guard just fell back into place.
Whoops! Just allow that us NA runners wouldn't recognise a boost controller if we fell over it! Damn! Caught out, again!
