Hi guys, firstly, i do understand the risks involved and yes i am crazy, so pls leave positive comments only. Ok, so I'm looking at buying a project zed, now when i ran the Vin number through the PPSR site it shows a write-off in 2005 "Collision, QLD, 24 May 2005, Inspected" It doesn't state whether it was a statutory write-off or repairable write-off. However the car was registered in 2010 (numbers match documents) so my understanding is that it was repaired, inspected, and re-registered. My question is this - Will i need to get it inspected again before i can register it or is it just the same as registering an unregistered car (Roadworthy cert, numbers check etc). Also the owner has not registered it before, do i need any extra paperwork besides my receipt of purchase from the current owner and the old rego documents from the guy he bought it off. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Regards, Grant.
If it was registered in 2010, you should be alright to register it now. You will need to get a RWC for it, and transfer it into your name. The papers you need are the receipt from the last registered owner selling it to the owner before you, and the receipt from the last guy selling it to you.. Having previous rego papers wouldn't hurt either.
Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. However, if more information was available it could be a consideration if the price is right. a./ Is the current owner the same person who stacked/repaired the car? b./ What was the nature of repairs and who carried out the repair work? c./ Is it a Members Zed? d./ With a plethora of very nice Members cars available what is unique with this one... a local car perhaps? As a a project for racing or show? If the latter, your resale value may be compromised by prior history.
contact the registration authority in your state and get the FACTS everything else is hearsay  :br:
Positive.... that a Z32, or any other make of vehicles value will be severely reduced due to the "Write Off" history. Why get involved with a potential nightmare given the current prices decent examples are selling for? Could be a potential parts car dependant on price.
which I find somewhat odd in reality the hoops & hurdles you have to jump, through and all the yes sir / no sir' one must do see's a car that invariably is better than when it left the factory having done 2 repairable write-offs I can say in all honesty that its a course I WONT be going down again based purely on the grief you go through within the entire process. The up side for me tho is the 1 car I kept (holden stato) handles like a dream in comparision to other statos from the same era I've driven. The other owners that have driven mine have all said the same thing, mine is noticeable a tighter car over-all. doing a repairable write-off for a car you intend to keep = worth it if you can do the hurdles and hoops doing a repairable write-off for a quick turn-over and a bit of profit = not worth it.
Basically its cheap, and would make for a decent project, definitely for my own enjoyment only, as is the current daily driver N/A. I've had a lot of fun playing with the N/A over the last 9ish years (the '92 to '95 engine swap was interesting) and i think its time to take on a new challenge. I'm hoping to bypass the whole hoops & hurdles part of the operation because it was registered after the write-off. I've sent emails off to various gov places to get some more detailed background info. Thanks for the replys. As always, very useful information from very helpful members :zlove: I will definitely be doing more homework before jumping on this one. Regards, Grant.
find out what it was repaired for.. find out who repaired it and if they have photos of the damage. if it was written off because of hail damage.. then i would say jump on it... zeds are not hard to write off... they work off 40-60% of the value of the car in damages is a write off (depending on the insurer). so if it was hail damage.. a full respray at a reputable shop is 4k. the value of a zed is 8k.... write off... if it was a minor front hit which destroyed the nose panel front bumper, headlight and a guard. nose panel - $100 front bumper - $700 headlight - $600 guard - $300 reo bar - $300 bumper lights - $100 plus labor and paint.. write off.... get my point? so no your not crazy or doing anything dangerous as it has already been inspected and is safe to use on the roads.
