Hey Guys, I just had the RAC out, he reckons my battery is on its last legs. So I ask you is there a specific Battery I should look for? One that suits the Zeds? I just read in the WA 26th April Run, 2 guys talking about getting a Yellow Top Battery. So I'm just curious Cheers Bobby..
I got the Exide Extra red top, from Kmart (wait till they have a discount day to get it). The one to look for is X55D23C, perfect size for the zed. Seems like a good battery, went overseas for 2months and wen I came back the car started first time with no problems. Also has a 3 year warranty. http://www.exide.com.au/products/index.php
Personally I go for the biggest battery that will fit. Last one I got was classed as a light truck & tractor battery , it lasted a very long time , even after not being used for many months it was fine. Only died because it was used to power stereo speakers via an inverter until it was discharged to the point were it was non rechargeable. (which happens , if a battery is let to drain beyond a certain point it will die)
ive had a optima yellow top dry cell in ym old car, which was a nissan pathfinder, and i had a duel amp stereo in it, and it always started first go and i was extremely happy with the battery. they arent to big for the power they put out, and as long as ur driving at least on a weekly basis theyll stay charged
Man.. if you're just after an everyday starting a driving battery you don't need a fancy $300plus battery. It will not last any longer than a decent standard automotive. You should be able to get a sealed, calcium, 600cca, 3yr or so warranty battery for under $180 that is going to last just as long as the fancy pants optima. Make sure when you install it you clean the posts and the terminals. Make sure the battery is secured properly. Make sure you are comparing [i[Cold Cranking Amps[/i], no other measure is relevant to your application. Make sure the battery has not been sitting around for months, ie buy it somewhere with high turnover. Ask the shop to show you where the manufacturing date is hot stamped onto the battery, it should have been made in the past month.
Dude I change maybe 5000 batteries per year, since Feb 2003... Of the range I sell the correct battery for Z32 is 600cca and $175. By correct I mean terminals in the right place, fits the bracket properly (ie secure) and the right capacity to reasonably expect a 5yr lifespan. ****ing around with smaller batteries for the sake of saving some space (and again I am talking about a battery that fits the tray, no larger) is not only a waste of time it is unsafe.
im going to be honest for people her. buy a battery thats 450 cca and within the 3 years of warranty it will die. then what you do is you go back to the store and say my battery died and its still under warranty you get a new battery and save money save weight save space.
I got a battery from Rob like last year and it's working perfectly fine, car is started once a week, sometimes less and never misses a start. I think it was a 600cca battery? didnt look any bigger than the old battery, and a kilo or 2 extra weight isn't going to cause any trouble, there are better and easier things to reduce the weight of the car
Battery life is related to depth of discharge; meaning a bigger capacity battery in the same application will last longer than a smaller one of the same type because the depth of discharge is lower (higher capacity, same load). The graph says it all:- Starting (sometimes called SLI, for starting, lighting, ignition) batteries are commonly used to start and run engines. Engine starters need a very large starting current for a very short time. Starting batteries have a large number of thin plates for maximum surface area. The plates are composed of a Lead "sponge", similar in appearance to a very fine foam sponge. This gives a very large surface area, but if deep cycled, this sponge will quickly be consumed and fall to the bottom of the cells. Automotive batteries will generally fail after 30-150 deep cycles if deep cycled, while they may last for thousands of cycles in normal starting use (2-5% discharge). Performance considerations suggest you get the lightest battery (and hence smallest capacity) How big is your wallet?
Sorry to dig up old thread. Need to buy new battery. Planning to get Exide Extra red top X55D23C, from Kmart. Don't have time to research. Want better recommendation from WA members and where to get best value for money. 600 cca should be OK. Just want to make sure my new battery will fit under the bonnet. Planning to get yellow top but few owners had issues to fit them.
Exide are shit. Get one from RACW (hope I have that right...) part no 2544. They are sealed calcium batteris, 600cca, 3yr warranty and should be around $182. Oh yeah the fit properly too
