Rear Spoiler Corrosion?

    Hi All

I noticed yesterday that my rear spoiler was coming loose under the back lip in a few places.
This has occurred from what looks like corrosion from the spoiler itself. I hope it is and not the back hatch. Has anyone else had issues with a similar problem?
    Cheers

There is a metal core within the spoiler that rusts. This can spread to the hatch.

The first thing I did when I got my zed was take the spoiler off and assess the rust. Only one of the main holes had about a thumb-nail of rust (thank god!).

My advice, spend the money to take the spoiler off, repair the rust and either replace the spoiler with something sexy or go Brazilian!

I pulled mine off last year because of the wing corroding. When it was removed there were a couple of badly rusted bolt/clip holes. Cost $500 to have the holes filled, rust removed and the hatch painted. Add in the cost of an infill panel to replace the 3rd brake light to give you an idea on cost to repair if there is rust.

    That's cheap as Gazza!

I paid closer to $1000 to have the rust taken out, holes welded up, tailgate sprayed (which included the window out). Then paid for Facia and new tailgate window seals from Courtesy!

    I feel violated! Icky! :vomit:

I had the car in for insurance repairs at the time so he probably felt that adding in the extra bit of work was not going to be such a big deal for him to do.

    Lucky!!

I also had issues with mine because the guy couldn't work out what a brazilian was and the fact that no spoiler meant no spoiler!
Don't get me wrong the job on the tailgate was good, it was just other annoying stuff like yellow paint on my seat, rubbers and window!!

going brazilian in Z talk and going brazilian in the normal conversational sense is two very different things. i'd like to see the look on your panel guy's face when you told him you wanted a brazilian :p

    Hi Jaz

Ok, the spoiler is off and no rust what so ever, except in the spoiler itself. I'm not sure if to go brazilian or replace the spoiler with something lighter. What parts do I need to go brazilian?

you will need the spoiler holes on the hatch welded and filled if you are removing the spoiler/going brazilian. then you have a choice of :-

    a) the late model 3rd brake light that sits atop the reverse lights,

    b) an infill panel courtesy of gonzo or ztoy which is fibreglass that you can paint in your any colour, and your choice of a 3rd brake light which im pretty sure is required for RWC. i think some guys are doing without that 3rd brake light though...

Just spent 2 days resurrecting the spoiler. Aluminium strap , angle grinder and a tube of black silastic and the jobs done. Have photos if anyone is interested. Looks ok but not perfect, however, heaps better that what I started out with. I will have to do until I get one from the states.
